WBB | Grizzlies Knock Down RMAC Record 22 Three’s in Blowout Win Over Western St.

GUNNISON, Colo. (February 28, 2015) – Behind a record breaking 22 three-pointers, the Adams State University women's basketball team wrapped up their season with a 97-56 blowout win against rival Western State Colorado University on Saturday night.

The 22 trey's bested the previous RMAC single-game record of 20 set twice by Regis University in 2006 and 2007. The previous ASU program record was 16 made three's which occurred against Colorado Christian University during the 1992-93 season.

The Grizzlies shot 22-of-45 from downtown which equates to a season-best 48 percent clip. Their 49 percent (35-71) field goal shooting also serves as a season-best.

The offensive production was highlighted by five made three's apiece from Lena Jaycox, Natalie Halbleib, and Brittney Whiteman as Nicole Broyles collected a game-high 14 rebounds for a new personal-best.

A total of five ASU players tallied double digit figures led by 17 points apiece from Desiree Anderson and Jaycox. Halbleib and Whiteman added 15 each with all of their scoring coming from three-point shooting. J'nae Squires-Horton chipped in 14 points during 28 minutes of action.

The Grizzlies controlled the game from the opening tip and led by as much as 44. The early lead allowed head coach Larry Joe Hunt to utilize every player on the active roster which translated to a 38-18 edge in bench scoring.

The record setting night also included new season-highs in points (97), total rebounds (51), assists (25), and blocks (7). The monumental night for the program was the final outing for Anderson and Whiteman who combined for 32 points.

Adams State will look to bottle the momentum gained during the final stretch of the season that included wins over Fort Lewis College, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and tonight's win against Western State.

Despite finishing with a 5-21 overall record and a 5-17 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) mark, the Grizzlies return 10 student-athletes next season.
