WLAX| Grizzlies drop heart breaker to Rockhurst 11-10

Box Score KANSAS CITY, MO. (March 25,2015)— Wrapping up their Midwest road trip, the Adams State University Grizzly women's lacrosse team lost a close game to the Rockhurst University Hawks on Wednesday afternoon.

The first half of the game saw Jessica Hammer get the game started with a goal at 28:33. Kendra Cheda would score the next goal for ASU just twenty-three seconds later to give the Grizzlies an early 2-0 lead. The Hawks would get one back at 26:33 with a goal by Tessa Boots, but Qiana Barfield would counteract that goal to once again put Adams State up by two.
Cheda would net her second goal of the game at 22:47 to give the Grizzlies a three- goal cushion at 4-1. Rockhurst scored four unanswered goals with Boots netting three of those four to give the Hawks their first lead of the game at 5-4. However, Hammer would find the net for her second goal (10:35) of the half to tie the game at 5-5. Boots would net the next goal of the game to put Rockhurst up by one.

Tierney Buschbacher gave the Hawks their largest lead of the game with her goal at 6:02 to make the score 7-5, but Cheda was unstoppable as she netted her third of the game to bring the Grizzlies back within one. With 2:29 left in the first half, Barfield netted her second goal of the half to tie the game up 7-7.

With just eleven seconds left until halftime, Heather Jones netted her first goal of the half while the Grizzlies were a man down to give Adams State a 8-7 lead going into halftime.

The second half saw Rockhurst tie the game up at 8-8 off of a goal by Hannah Weisbroad at 28:06. The Hawks would take their second lead of the game with a Jori Hermann goal shortly after at 26:08 to put them up 9-8.

Rockhurst would add another goal with Boots netting her fifth goal of the game at 18:56 to put the score at 10-8. However, Adams State would fight back with Barfield netting her third goal at 17:51 off of a free-position shot to put the Grizzlies back within one.

The Hawks would then add another goal to go up by two, off of an Adams State penalty to bring the score to 11-9.

Hammer would then net the Grizzlies' and the last goal of the game with 9:51 left to go.  The final ended up at 11-10.

The Grizzlies were led by Hammer, Barfield, and Cheda who each had three goals each, and Jones who added one.

Adams State will take to the field next on March 28th when they host the Regis University Rangers in conference play. The game is slated to start at 3 pm.
