DENVER—With some teams securing spots in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament, the Adams State University softball team is stilly battling for their spot as they dropped both of Sunday's Pod Weekend games. They fell 5-1 to Regis University before falling 5-4 to CSU-Pueblo in the second game.
After the conclusion of Sunday's games, the Grizzlies are now 18-18 on the season and 16-14 in the conference. They are still in fourth place in the RMAC standings after Metro State University-Denver and Colorado Mesa clinched spots on Sunday.
In Sunday's game, the Grizzlies scored four runs in the bottoom of the first inning on four hits and four errors but dispite having seven hits in the game, including two doubles from
Tayler Else and a double and a triple from
Kalin Johnson, they were unable to score until the seventh inning.
That's when Else slapped a double to left field to score pinch runner Aysia Schultz.
Kelsy Sellars was tabbed with the loss and fell to 9-8 on the season after tossing five innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and nabbed three strikeouts.
Morgan McWilliams tossed one inning and allowed an unearned run on one hit.
In the second game Adams State scored two runs in the top of the first inning as Erika Exsedy singled through the right side to bring
Mara Dunlap and Johnson around to score. The lead did not last long though as the ThunderWolves scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning.
They then scored a single run in the bottom of the second and the bottom of the third inning. The Grizzlies scored on a passed ball in the top of the third and then on a fielding error in the top of the sixth to move within one run.
They then got their two leadoff batters on base but could not convert as they stranded the runners on first and second.
The Grizzlies will return to action on Saturday and Sunday when they host Chadron State College with Sunday's games being Strike Out Cancer Day. First pitch for Saturday's games is scheduled for 12 p.m. while Sunday's game starts at 11 p.m.
