SB| Grizzlies sweep Eagles in RMAC doubleheader

ALAMOSA-The race to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament heated up on Sunday as the Grizzlies took two games from the Chadron State Eagles. With the 4-1 Game One win and the 12-4 six inning win in Game Two, the Grizzlies improve to 21-19 on the season and 19-15 in the conference to stay in the top six of the conference standings.

The Grizzlies return to action next Saturday and Sunday when they host the Colorado Christian Cougars.

The first game saw the Eagles score first with the help of a fielding error in the top of the second inning but they battled back and tied the game in the bottom of the third with a solo home run from Erika Ecsedy to lead off the bottom of the third inning.

The Eagles retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning but that did not stick as Marissa Harmon battled and with two runners on base, drove the 3-2 pitch like a laser over the right center field to give Adams State a 4-2 lead.

Starting pitcher Lauren Murphy completed the game as she allowed two runs on seven hits and six walks. With the help of her defense and three strikeouts Murphy was able to strand ten Eagles on the base paths.

In the second game, the very first pitch of the game saw the Eagles lift a solo home run and get a 1-0 lead. The trouble did not stop there as they scored two more runs on five base hits to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Grizzlies finally scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the second as Tayler Else scampered home on a wild pitch. They then scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning as Erica Haugum hit a 2 RBI double and April Riggins nailed an RBI single.

The Eagles were able to scratch across the tying run in thr top of the fourth inning.

Adams State countered with a five spot in the bottom of the fifth inning as they had four singles a walk and an error as they sent ten batters to the plate.

They then pulled the walkoff win in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored three runs.

Kelsey Sellars earned her 11th win of the season as she gave up four runs on nine hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Paige Reichmuth started her first two games of the season and was 0-for-3 on the day but scored two runs. Harmon was 3-of-7 on the day with six RBI and two runs scored.
