Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (April 3, 2015)-- It was a close game as the Adams State University Grizzlies women's lacrosse team faced off against the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves at the Gonazles Lacrosse Complex on Friday night. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies fell by one goal.
To start the first half, the Thunderwolves came out strong scoring two goals five minutes apart. Adams State would then net their first goal with
Kendra Cheda scoring at 23:57 to put the score at 2-1. Cheda would also score the Grizzlies' second goal at 21:37 to tie the game up at two. However, right after ASU tied it up, CSUP would net their third goal to once again take the lead. Cheda would then net her third goal of the game to once again tie the game up 3-3 with just 2:32 left in the half. The Thunderwolves would strike back just seconds later to take a 4-3 lead that would once again become a tie with
Kates Raymond netting her first of the game at 1:21 off of a free-position shot to tie the game up at four heading into halftime.
The Grizzlies would strike first with
Jessica Hammer finding the back of the net just sixteen seconds into the start of the second half to give Adams State their first lead of the game at 5-4. The Grizzlies wouldn't be able to hang on to the lead at the Thunderwolves would strike again just minutes later to tie the game 5-5. CSUP would then score again at 22:28 to take the lead by one.
Cheda would find the net for her fourth goal of the game with 10:04 left in the game off of a free position shot to once again put the Grizzlies in a tie at 6-6. However, the Thunderwolves would score two more after that to give them a two goal lead at 8-6.
Qiana Barfield would score her firs t of the game at 6:04 (assist by Hammer) to cut CSUP's lead down to one.
Hammer would then score her second goal of the game with 6:04 left, off of a man-up opportunity that would tie the game 8-8.
However, the Thunderwolves broke the tie for the win at 2:14 to end the game 9-8.
Leading the Grizzlies in this game were Cheda with four goals, Hammer with two, and Raymond and Barfield with one each.
Adams State takes to the field next on April 4
th at Regis University for a conference match up. The game is slated to begin at 12 pm.
