ALAMOSA, Colo. (August 3, 2015) -- Fans will notice a striking difference about Adams State University football when they take the field in 2015.

On Monday, head coach Timm Rosenbach introduced two new helmets that ASU will wear on game days.

Unveiled for 2015 is a white matte finish helmet as well as a traditional green helmet that has been used in recent seasons. The biggest change comes in the form of the official Adams State U-Paw decal that is prominently displayed on both. Under the Schutt brand, both styles incorporate a green facemask with "Grizz" written on the nose bumper.

"We have such a great logo that represents our athletic programs, we felt it was important to make the U-Paw the focal point of the helmets." Rosenbach said. "Through the help of a significant donation we were able to add the matte white helmet to our uniform. With the alternate helmet now in place, along with some other uniform changes, we will be able to have options for different looks throughout the season."
 
Adams State last wore white helmets during the 1970's before switching to green.

Both helmets not only incorporate a new style but an upgrade in student-athlete safety by switching to the Schutt Vengeance VTD II and Schutt AiR XP Pro VTD helmet models. Both models have been evaluated and given the highest rating possible (5-Stars) according to Virginia Tech helmet ratings.

"As an administrator it is nice knowing your student-athletes are wearing the safest equipment possible." Athletic Director Larry Mortensen said. "This new addition is all due to the contributions of an alumnus."
 
"The addition of the new helmet designs will serve as a valuable recruiting tool for Adams State as we work to build this program." Rosenbach added. "We are excited to be able to display the Adams State brand in new and exciting styles for the upcoming season."
 
Adams State begins their season in Commerce, Texas against Texas A&M University-Commerce on Sept. 3 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The Grizzlies return to Alamosa the following week for their home opener against Eastern New Mexico University on Sept. 12 at 6:00 p.m. MT.
