ALAMOSA, Colo. (November 9, 2016) – The Adams State University women's basketball team hits the road for the rest of November. The team will travel to the Ashbrook Classic in Wichita Falls, Texas this weekend. Midwestern State will be the host school.

Last Time Out:
The 2016-17 squad opened up in a disappointing way back on November 2nd. The Grizzlies were defeated 82-54 by Northern New Mexico College Eagles of the NAIA division.
Brianna Reyna led the team with 14 points, while
Cydney McHenry added another 13. Demetria Clichee paced the Eagles with a game-high 18 points. The Grizzlies shot 24.2 percent from the field as the Eagles shot 44.4 percent. The Eagles relied heavily on the deep ball by shooting 8-of-22 on three pointers. Northern New Mexico also held the edge on the boards by a 52-38 margin.
About Midwestern State:
Midwestern State is located 2.5 hours northwest of Dallas in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Mustangs compete in the Lone Star Conference. Head coach Noel Johnson was Texas Tech's all-time leader in 3-point percentage at the end of her playing career. The Mustangs have only played in 2 games this season, which were both exhibition games. The team lost to Oklahoma 110-47 and lost to Texas Tech 121-56. The matchup with Adams will be their first official game as they sit at 0-0.
The two last met on November 14
th, 2014. In that game, the Mustangs defeated the Grizzlies 77-62. The Grizzlies started the game hot, nailing three of their first four, three-point field goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Mustangs retaliated with a 12-0 run in response in four minutes of play and never turned back. The Mustangs led by as many as 12 points in the first half. A big contributor to their lead came from the benefit of 12 points scored off turnovers. MSU shot from the field at a solid 42.3% in comparison to ASU's 34.6%. The Grizzlies had a 40% success mark from beyond the arc compared to the Mustangs 35.7%. The second half proved to be much of the same narrative as the first. With 12:27 left in regulation, the Mustangs led by as many as 23 points and carried that lead to a victory.
About Texas Woman's University:
TWU is located in Denton, Texas which is 40 miles north of Dallas. The Pioneers compete in the Lone Star Conference and only sponsor women's athletics. The team is 0-0 having only played an exhibition game against University North Texas who is also located in Denton, Texas, losing 59-47.
These teams met last at the 2014 Ashbrook Classic on November 15
th, 2014. The Pioneers dominated that contest 79-47. The Pioneers controlled the game as early as the tip off, as they rumbled to score the game's first 18 points. In the first half, ASU had difficulty getting their shots to convert, shooting from the field 3-33(9.1%). It wasn't until 9:37 left in the first half until the Grizzlies converted their first field goal thanks to
Lena Jaycox who drained a three-point shot to finally put ASU on the scoreboard. The Pioneers led by as many as 28 points in the first half. TWC led the Grizzlies going into halftime, 36-8. With their offensive unit having found a rhythm, the Grizzlies were able to chip away at the staggering Pioneer lead. The Grizzly defensive unit allowed TWC to score 43 points in the second half however the offensive unit netted 39 points in comparison. TWC won the game at the end of regulation 79-47.
Looking Ahead: After the Ashbrook Classic wraps up, the Grizzlies will venture to Espanola, New Mexico for their rematch with Northern New Mexico College.
