ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 11, 2016) -- Adams State University ended last weekend's road trip with two consecutive conference losses. This weekend this Grizzlies return back to action for home stands against Colorado State University-Pueblo
on Friday and Western State Colorado University
on Saturday. Both Games will begin at 5:30 pm.
Last Time OutIn last weekend's results, Adams State (2-18, 1-16 RMAC) lost both games on their road trip to the state of South Dakota. Back to back disappointing losses to Black Hills State University and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology extended the Grizzlies' conference losing streak to thirteen consecutive games. Adams lost to the BHSU Yellow Jackets by a 75-30 score and lost the SDSMT Hardrockers by 58-43 margin.
About the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves (19-4, 14-3 RMAC)The ThunderWolves are currently tied with the Colorado School of Mines for the number one ranking within the Mountain Division of the conference. Heading into
Friday's game, the Pack is riding a four game winning streak and has accrued victories over the likes of Metro State, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Westminster, and Colorado Mesa University during the span of the streak. CSU-Pueblo has also collected quality wins over Colorado School of Mines and Black Hills State.
Statistically speaking, Head Coach Jim Turgeon has one of the most prolific offenses within the conference. On average the Pack collects a mark of about 67 points per game, which is good for a fifth-best ranking within the RMAC. His offense is led by the dynamic play of sophomore guard Tuileisu Anderson, who collects on average 14.5 ppg. Freshman center Molly Rohrer has been an effective threat as well and for the Pack this season, collecting an average of 12 ppg.
About Western State Colorado University Mountaineers (4-15, 2-15 RMAC)The Mountaineers are currently ranked sixth within the Mountain Division of the RMAC. Heading into this weekend's action, WSCU is riding an eight game losing streak and have lost fourteen of their last fifteen games. After starting off their season 3-1, the Mountaineers will look to pick up a quality win
on Saturday against their bitter conference rival to bring a silver lining to their season.
Offensively speaking, the Mountaineers are one of the worst teams in the conference. They rank 15
th in points scored, field goal percentage, and turnovers. Despite their offensive deficiencies, Head Coach Van Girard has assembled young talent to build his program's future around. Sophomore Taylor Long, who leads the team in scoring is one of those talents and picks up an average of 14.6 ppg. That mark is good for the sixth best ranking in the conference. She is the only Mountaineer player to average more than seven points scored per game.
