ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 28, 2016) – A seven-run fourth inning was more than enough for Adams State University to take Sunday's series finale versus Eastern New Mexico University, 15-4.
The Grizzlies (4-9) scored in each of the first five frames as the team picked up a total of five doubles on the day. The great offense was matched by pitcher
Daniel Brown who kept the Greyhound (7-7) bats rather quiet in 5.0 innings of work. Brown allowed one run off three hits while striking out four batters en route to his first win of the season.
With Brown in a groove the offense wasted little time providing run support. Already holding a 5-1 lead, the Grizzlies surged for seven runs off six hits in the top of the fourth. The frame was highlighted by a three RBI double from
Deven Nelson along with RBI doubles from
Zach Moldenhauer and Derrek Denovellis.
Three additional runs came across home plate an inning later thanks in large part to defensive miscues by the Greyhounds. With the bases juiced, a throwing error by ENMU brought in both Denovellis and Moldenhauer. A wild pitch and walk followed to send
Dillon Granzella to the dish with the bases loaded once again. Granzella promptly picked up an easy RBI after being hit by a pitch to score
Tyler Thurston from third.
After Brown's exit from the game, four Grizzly relievers continued to stifle ENMU by combining to allow three runs off three hits in four innings of work.
The Grizzlies look to carry momentum from today's win into Friday's home opener against New Mexico Highlands University. First pitch of the four-game series is set for 3pm at the ASU Baseball Field. Free streaming video and live stats will be provided for fans unable to attend.
