ALAMOSA, Colo. (April 15, 2016) — Adams State University's Friday doubleheader split against Metropolitan State University of Denver snapped the Grizzlies' seven-game losing streak, ending a stretch that spanned nearly two weeks.
The Roadrunners took game one, 9-5, while the Grizzlies took an 8-5 victory during game two.
In game one the Grizzlies (16-23, 12-14 RMAC) trailed the Roadrunners 4-0 after the opening two frames. The Metro State lead came about in the second inning after their leadoff hitter, infielder Andrew Paust, connected for a home run to left field. After ASU pitcher
Josh Keaton surrendered a double and a walk, Roadrunner infielder Jake Thurston smacked out another homer for Metro State to ring in another three runs.
The Grizzlies registered their first run thanks to a RBI single from
Evan Weidner to score
Marco Garmendia who led the frame off with a walk. In the fifth inning the Grizzlies reeled in another two runs. Run production began after
Tyler Thurston slammed a double to left field to score Garmendia.
Chris Morley hit another Grizzly double to let Thurston make his way across home plate
Metro State did not let the Grizzlies home field advantage evaporate their early lead, scoring one run in the seventh, one run in the eighth, and three in the ninth. For the game Garmendia and Morley were the Grizzlies' best offensive performers. At the plate Garmendia went 1-for-3 with two runs while being walked once. Morley went 3-for-5 with one run and a RBI. Pitcher
Daniel Brown (2-1) got the loss in one complete inning on the mound, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs on 22 pitches.

Dillon Bollig smacked a home run to left field on a full count. Bollig's homer in the third inning was his fourth of the season to keep him as the team leader in home runs.
The Grizzlies tied the game in the fourth inning after another ASU homerun from Thurston. A six-run fifth inning sealed pitcher
Bailey Garcia's (5-2) fifth win of the season and snapped the Grizzlies seven-game losing streak. In seven complete innings, Garcia threw a career-high 135 pitches, allowing nine hits and five runs with two walks. The sophomore also tallied a season-best 10 strike outs.
