ALAMOSA-With eight inches of snow on the ground and more threatening to fall throughout the day and night, Adams State cancelled Saturday's doubleheader with the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls. Adams State won both of Friday's games to move to 17-27 overall and 15-17 in the Rocky Mountain Atheltic Conference.

They sit in eighth place, in conference standings entering the final weekend of the regular season, next Saturday and Sunday. The Grizzlies will travel to Durango to take on the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks in two piovatal doubleheaders. FLC is 13-30 overall and 10-20 in the RMAC, as they sit in 11th in the conference.

FLC saw their two games, against Regis and CSU-Pueblo at Regis, cancelled because of weather, as well.

Next week's doubleheaders will start at 12 p.m. and 11 a.m., respectivly. Fans can listen to the games on KSPK or follow live stats via FLC.

Despite the game's being cancelled, the Adams Statate softball teams had an emotional Senior Day celebration. Adams State University Head Softball Coach Dervin Taylor honored three ladies who have been pivotal to the program's success.

The first person to be honored was Graduate Assistant Trainer Alex Dean, who is in her final year as a GA for ASU. Special remarks were made by ASU Head Baseball Coach Jim Capra.

Second person to be honored was junior Kelsi Kautz, who is graduating early and will be student teaching next semester, this ending her softball career.

Shaena Connelly, the lone senior was honored last as her tearful prerecorded speech had the room of players, parents and fans in tears. All three that were honored were presented with flowers, a framed collage of photos and a special, custamized wooden desk decoration.

In  addition, It was announced that the S. Connelly Memorial Scholarship was created and will be awarded to an Adams State Softball player for $1,300  anually.  The scholarship is a legacy in honor of Stacy Connelly, Shaena Connelly's father.

"He had enormous respect for Coach Taylor and a great appreciation for everything the Taylor's do for all of our daughters. The scholarship places value on what was important to Mr. Connelly, the education and empowerment of young women, as they should be supported, encouraged and enabled to do whatever they want to do in this world," noted Ms. Connelly as she made the announcement.
