ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 17, 2017)Adams State University hosts Chadron State College and Regis University this weekend to wrap up the Grizzlies' four-game home stand. Adams State is coming off their first weekend sweep of the season against RMAC competition after taking down both South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and Black Hills State University.

Last Time Out
A 13-point halftime lead for Adams State turned into a nail-biter but a costly turnover with five seconds left by South Dakota School of Mines sealed a thrilling 60-59 victory for the Grizzlies on Friday night. With 30 seconds left a Caleb Wroten layup pushed ASU ahead 60-58. The Hardrockers' Konor Kulas went on to make one of his two free throw attempts to then make it 60-59 in the closing seconds. An immediate Hardrocker foul sent Szymon Walczak to the line but the freshman was unsuccessful on his attempt to give the ball back to South Dakota School of Mines with six seconds remaining. Marco Pascolo pushed the ball up the court for South Dakota School of Mines but turned the ball over to ASU as time expired. Bryan Umoru led ASU with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 steals. Shane Johnson added 13 points off the bench along with 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Brandon Sly posted 12 points as Wroten chipped in his best performance of the season with 8 points and 12 rebounds.

Plachy Hall Gym witnessed another thrilling finish the following night as Adams State held on for a 75-73 victory over Black Hills State. The Yellow Jackets held the ball on the final play but a corner three-point attempt by Fraser Malcolm bounced off the rim to give Adams State their third consecutive victory. The win also improved ASU's home record to 4-3 on the season. 17 points in the second half by Sly led the charge for Adams State in retaining the lead late in the game. In the second half, the junior went 3-of-6 from the field and 10-of-10 from the line. Sly finished with a game-high 26 points and a perfect 16-of-16 mark from the charity stripe. Umoru and Johnson each added 14 points to join Sly in double figures as Kevin Dorsey chipped in 9 points off the bench.

Scouting The Eagles
Chadron State enters Alamosa looking to snap a three-game losing streak. The last Eagles win came at Adams State's expense on Dec. 31st with a 66-58 win from the Chicoine Center. The Eagles are 0-7 on the road and own the worst scoring margin amongst RMAC schools (-13.5). Darius Polley and Warren Gordon lead Chadron State with 13.2 and 13.1 ppg., respectively. Polley ranks sixth in the RMAC with 1.6 steals/game. Houston Reed is in his first season at the helm.

Scouting The Rangers
Regis enters the weekend as winners in six of their last seven games with the lone defeat coming on Saturday at home versus Westminster College (70-55). The loss also snapped a six-game win streak against RMAC foes. The Rangers are led offensively by Dexter Sienko's 15.6 ppg. and Jarrett Brodbeck's 15.0 ppg. Kevin Metoyer ranks first in the conference with his 94 percent shooting clip at the free throw line. Metoyer also ranks second in assists (5.1). Troy Anderson ranks second is steals (1.8). The program owns an impressive 5-2 record on the road. Head Coach Brady Bergeson is in his second season with the program.

Last We Met
Chadron State defeated Adams State, 66-58, on New Year's Eve from the Chicoine Center. The Grizzlies trailed for a large portion of the game although keeping the score close more often than not. The game featured 8 ties and 10 lead changes. Sly finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds to collect his first double-double of the season. Sly added 5 assists and 2 steals. Johnson had 15 points with Umoru and Jarrett Givens adding 10 and 9 points, respectively. For the game, ASU shot 37.9 percent (22-58) from the field and 23.3 percent (7-30) from downtown.

On Jan. 30th, 2016, Regis walked out of Plachy Hall Gym with a 74-62 win over Adams State. In a game almost entirely controlled by Regis, Adams State found themselves out of rhythm offensively. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies searched for a defensive answer to stop Regis' Billy Hansen and Dexter Sienko.  The duo combined for 35 points with Hansen draining six three-pointers and Sienko grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds, 10 of which were on the offensive glass.  

Looking Ahead
The Grizzlies take to the road for one game next week at Colorado School of Mines on Jan. 28th in Golden. The following weekend, ASU remains on the road against Colorado State University-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands University.
