ALAMOSA – Adams State University football team will host Colorado School of Mines Saturday at 1 p.m. for the 2017 Ag Days. The Grizzlies (3-6, 3-5 RMAC) come in with the top-ranked passing offense in the nation, while the Orediggers are the 15
th ranked rushing offense. The game will celebrate the 2017 Ag Days, a timeless tradition of the support of local potato farmers and shippers from the San Luis Valley.
Â
The pass-attack of the Grizzlies will need to be at top form, as the Orediggers have allowed just 228 yards passing per game this season.
Nick Rooney, has more than 2,300 yards this season through the air and 21 touchdowns, but has only five touchdowns to eight interceptions in the past four games.
Â
One key individual to watch is
Chad Hovasse, who was recently named the 2017 RMAC Academic Offensive Player of the Year. Hovasse has 67 catches for 926 yards and 10 touchdowns. He is now the career-record holder in receptions, and less than 200 yards receiving from taking over that top-spot in the school record book.
Â
For the Grizzlies, stopping the run game of Cameron Mayberry will be the key. Mayberry has rushed for 1,143 yards this season, good for sixth in the nation. He is also top-10 in the nation in rushing touchdowns with 14 and yards per game with more than 127.
Â
On the counter part, the Orediggers have allowed just 1,450 yards rushing this season and 13 touchdowns. The Grizzlies have more than 1,500 yards this season, led by senior back
Corey Brown with 686 yards.
