ALAMOSA, Colorado– The Adams State University volleyball team seeks to finish the year with a berth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament. Luckily, the team will have the luxury of playing out the final two games on their own home court. The weekend will be a busy one as the team will be blacking it out. Free black shirts will be given to the first 25 fans and will be available for sell for $10 otherwise. Friday's 7:00PM game will be "Parents Night" and Saturday's 6:00PM contest will serve as senior night.
Recently In Adams State Volleyball:
The Grizzlies (12-13, 8-8 RMAC) had to deal with some of the RMAC's toughest competition last weekend, losing to both No. 17 Colorado Mines and Colorado Christian 0-3. The losses snapped a five game winning streak that had solidified ASU as a top-eight conference team. The Grizzlies have not yet clinched a spot in the RMAC tournament at 8-8, they are ranked seventh in conference. Only the top eight will be invited to join post season action. On a brighter note, ASU has already defeated this weekend's opponents this season by a combined score of 6-1.
About CSU-Pueblo:
The ThunderWolves are 4-21 on the year with three of those wins coming from RMAC play. They have currently lost six straight and are only 1-8 on the road. The team will be led by Caitlin Broadwell who has 307 kills on the season including nine against ASU.
Last Meeting:
The last meeting was at home this season on October 27
th. In the match the Grizzlies controlled much of the first set but had to hold off a late 6-3 run to secure the 25-19 victory. The ThunderWolves managed to steal set number two 25-22 to even things up. The third set was not even close with Adams going on a 12-5 run to end the set 25-16. No fifth set would be needed as the Grizzlies replicated the third with a similar 25-17 result highlighted by a 6-1 run to end things.
About Western State:
The Mountaineers are ranked last in the RMAC at 2-24, 1-16 conference. They are also on a six game losing streak dating back to their only conference win over South Dakota Mines on October 20
th. The team will be led by Jordan Eatwell's team-high 217 kills. Logan Franek will likely play a key role as well, as she leads the RMAC in aces with 38.
Last Meeting:
The September 30
th matchup went very well for the Grizzlies, who won it 3-0.
Mallory Grimsrud led the way with 15 kills and five total blocks with freshman,
Macie Magallon close behind with 10 kills. Rachel Ringler impressed with 29 assists. Kathleen Kasel led the Mountaineers with seven kills two total blocks.
