ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 14, 2017) – Senior Night will take place on Friday, Feb. 17th for Adams State University as they host Colorado Christian University. It'll serve as the final regular season home game for the Grizzlies during the 2016-17 season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm in Plachy Hall Gym.

Last Time Out
Vs. Colorado Mesa
With a stop on the final possession, Adams State University held on for a 70-67 win against Colorado Mesa University on Feb. 10th from Plachy Hall. The win avenged an earlier loss to the Mavericks this season in which Adams State lost control of a 16-point lead; ultimately losing 91-82.

After a timeout with 11 seconds left, CMU had an opportunity to tie as the Mavericks only trailed 70-67. The Grizzlies survived as a pair of three-point attempts fell short to prevent overtime. Brandon Sly led ASU's efforts with 19 points off 4-of-6 shooting from three. Sly added 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Shane Johnson came off the bench for 14 points in 16 minutes. J.R. Tailey posted a game-high 10 rebounds along with 6 points.

Vs. Western State
A career night from Johnson and Bryan Umoru paved the way for a thrilling 90-83 overtime win for Adams State against rival Western State Colorado University. Johnson posted a career-high 29 points off 12-of-21 shooting as Umoru picked up his second  double-double of the season with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Both marks now serve as career-highs for the senior.

A pair of Umoru free throws with 22 seconds left pushed Adams State ahead 76-73 but Western State responded with a three-pointer to make it 76-76. The Grizzlies held the final possession of regulation but were unable to grab the game-winning basket.

Five consecutive overtime points from Brandon Sly positioned ASU with an 85-80 lead with 49 seconds remaining. Sly drained a pair of free throws then followed with a big three-pointer to make it a two possession affair. Western State soon made it 85-83 with a three of their own but Sly once again put an end to any Western State hopes of a comeback with yet another three to place ASU on top by five. Umoru sank two free throws to complete the game's scoring.

Scouting The Cougars
Colorado Christian averages 82.7 points per game while shooting 40 percent from three-point range. Brett Brady ranks fourth in conference scoring at 18.9 points per game. The senior shoots 90 percent from the free throw line and 47 percent from three. Teammates Dimitri Saliba (17.6 ppg) and Ty McGee (17.5 ppg.) both rank inside the top 10 of RMAC scoring.

Since defeating Adams State at home on 12/30/16, Colorado Christian owns a 3-8 record. During that span the program has gone 1-4 on the road.

Last We Met
Sly posted a team-high 27 points at CCU on 12/30/16 as Adams State fell, 110-101. Brett Brady led the Cougars with 27 points on a night that saw Adams State tie their single-game scoring mark of 101 (Nov. 22nd vs. Northern New Mexico). Adams State trailed just 41-40 at halftime but Colorado Christian caught fire in the second stanza by shooting 64.8 percent (24-37) from the field to help the Cougars build their largest lead of 14.

31 personal fouls from each team led to ample opportunities at the charity stripe as the Grizzlies went 31-of-42 (73.8 percent). The high foul count resulted in Ethan CatonJohnsonUmoru, and Brandon Pasker each fouling out of the game. Jacob Taylor was the lone Cougar to foul out of the game. The Cougars knocked down 12 three-pointers with Brady and Andrew Lane combining for 9 three's.

Tournament Implications
The game holds RMAC Tournament seeding implications as the Cougars and Grizzlies are currently positioned in 7th and 8th place at the conference level. The tournament field will exclude Westminster College (Utah) as they are still in the process of becoming a full-fledge NCAA Division II athletic program. Westminster College previously competed in the NAIA. This season, Westminster owns a 14-7 overall record and a 14-5 mark in the RMAC.
