ALAMOSA, Colo. (March 31st, 2017) --- The Adams State women's lacrosse team played their home opener this afternoon in very cold and high wind conditions. Westminster managed to get the better of Adams and came away with the 20-4 win.

The Griffins (5-2, 3-1 RMAC) struck first with a Morgan Bakarich goal three minutes into the game.
Mireya Castro would even things up less than a minute later with her sixth goal of the season. Westminster followed by going on a 7-0 run to take an 8-1 lead midway through the first half.
Jessica Hammer got the Grizzlies (0-7, 0-5 RMAC) back on the board with her goal with 13:51 remaining until halftime. WC would add two more to the lead, but
Savannah Penland would end the short run with a score of her own.

Sarah Cousins gave Adams State their fourth goal off an assist from
Jessica Hammer. The score was Cousin's first of the year. The Griffins ended the game on a 7-0 run win the game and remain the RMAC's third place team.

Jessica Hammer had another solid performance with one goal, one assist, three ground balls, and four draw controls.
Samantha Hammer and
Hannah King led the defensive efforts with a combined four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kira Heiden led the Griffins with six goals, three ground balls, and five draw controls.

Westminster edged Adams State in saves 8-7 and ground balls 25-16. The Grizzlies put up quite the team defensive effort though, forcing 16 turnovers.

Head coach
Angelica Gero had this to say about the game, "We were struggling to all show up at the same time. We continue to make small victories every game, and as we become more confident, we will become more consistent. We are very happy that we still have the majority of our season ahead of us."
The team is back in action this Sunday against Colorado Mesa at 10:00AM.
