ALAMOSA, Colo. (May 22, 2017) – Adams State University concludes their 2017 campaign this week at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day meet begins Thursday, May 25th in Bradenton, Florida.
The No. 3 Adams State Women and the No. 4 Adams State Men each carry of roster of 12 individuals set to compete. Live coverage links for the Championships can be found above.
The No. 4 ASU Men return four outdoor All-Americans from a season ago in Sydney Gidabuday (5000m), Micah Ballantyne (4x100m relay), Chandler Reid (1500m), and Jackson Sayler (3000m steeplechase).
Gidabuday is slated to compete in the 5000m and the 10,000m as Ballantyne will toe the line for the 100m dash. Sayler remains in the 3000m steeplechase field but Chandler Reid will compete this season in the 5000m at the championships.
Adams State carries a field of three runners each in the 10,000m and 5000m runs. Sean Fontana, Gidabuday, and Lucio Ramirez will compete in the 10,000m as Gidabuday, Joshua Joseph, and Chandler Reid take to the track for the 5000m.
Gidabuday and Kale Adams hold nation-leading marks in the 5000m and 3000m steeplechase, respectively. Meanwhile Austin Anaya ranks second in the 1500m. Ballantyne (100m), Gidabuday (10,000m), and Sam Reid (shot put) each rank inside the top 10 in their aforementioned event.
The Grizzlies most recently posted a runner-up finish at the RMAC Championships with five individuals taking home event titles. At last year's outdoor championships, the Grizzlies tied for fourth with 33 points.

The No. 3 Adams State Women enter the championships after most recently earning a RMAC Team title earlier this month. In Florida, ASU is well represented in sprint and distance events. Sprinters Sunayna Wahi and Dianna Johnson have the busiest championship slate as the duo is set to race in the 100m and 200m dashes along with competing in the 4x100m relay with teammates Jessica Scherrer and Oweneika Watson. Scherrer – the lone All-American returnee from last season's outdoor campaign – is set to appear in the 400m hurdles where she currently ranks fourth in the country. Wahi owns DII's top 100m dash time as Johnson (200m) and Jenna Thurman (5000m) both rank second nationally.
ASU enters three runners in both the 10,000m (Aden Alemu, Sadie Baker, & Kaylee Bogina) and 5000m (Baker, Malena Grover, & Thurman).
Last season's outdoor championships resulted in a 12th place finish with 23 points for the ASU Women.
