ALAMOSA – The Adams State University women's basketball team (3-7 overall, 1-7 RMAC) is set to take on University of Colorado – Colorado Springs and Metro State University – Denver this upcoming weekend, January 5 and 6. The first games of the 2018 season will kick-off at 5:30 PM.
Recently In Adams State Women's Basketball:
The women of Adams State finished strong in the end of their 2017 season with a split weekend. In a toughly contested Friday night game, the ASU Grizzlies faced the CCU Cougars. After a back and forth match-up, the Cougars narrowly escaped with a win, finishing the night with a final score of 59-55. Despite the loss, Adams came to play in their next game on Saturday night. In their final competition of the 2017 season, the Grizzlies took on the Eagles of Chadron State. With intense fight and determination, along with incessant determination from the team, the women recorded their first conference win on the season, ending with a final score of 87-78.
About UCCS:
The UCCS Mountain Lions (2-10 overall, 2-5 RMAC) have a somewhat similar season record as the ASU Grizzlies with only one more conference win. Although the Mountain Lions have struggled early in their season, they recorded two wins against strong RMAC teams including Chadron State and CCU. In their most recent game, the Mountain Lions fell to the Western State Mountaineers with a final score of 62-74.
Last Meeting:
The Grizzlies met the Mountains Lions once last season. In approximately the middle of their 2016-17 season, ASU traveled to Colorado Springs to take on UCCS on their home court. In a tough match-up, the Grizzlies fell with a final score of 57-81. Despite the loss,
Lejla Hadzialijagic had an impressive night, tallying 11 points, one assist, and one steal.
About Metro State:
The Metro State University Roadrunners (9-4 overall, 5-2 RMAC) are currently on a hot streak in their season with four straight wins. Despite two back-to-back losses early on, the Roadrunners have bounced back from defeat and done well in conference play. In their most recent match-ups, Metro has defeated CCU and Colorado Mesa with final scores of 56-43 and 69-65, respectively.
Last Meeting:
The ASU Grizzlies met the Metro State Roadrunners once last season on January 7, 2017. Coming off a tough loss from UCCS, Adams struggled to contain Metro's scoring efforts, and eventually fell to them with a final score of 38-80.
Lejla Hadzialijagic had the best night versus the Roadrunners, scoring 7 points and adding on one block and two steals.
