ALAMOSA – Adams State University softball team will look to make moves in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this weekend at home against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. The Grizzlies currently sit tied for sixth in the conference with Black Hills State University, while the Mountain Lions are just outside playoff contention at ninth in the conference.
Â
Adams is coming off of a disappointing 1-3 series with Colorado School of Mines where the team won only a game in a series where every game was a three or less run game. In two of the losses the Grizzlies were tied going into the bottom of the seventh.
Â
The Grizzlies are led by
Tyler Hays who is batting .390 this season. She leads the team in runs with 25, hits with 41, doubles with 9, triples with four and homeruns with 13 which is exactly half of the team's homers. She also has 30 RBIs.
Â
Just behind Hays is
Shelby Haskins, who is hitting .353. She is third on the team with 24 hits. She is joined by
April Riggins, Brittany Phillips and
Kaytlynn Johnson with 11 or more RBIs this season. Stephanie Huff is second on the team with 18 RBIs, while
Hannah Wirtjes has 10.
Â
The Mountain Lions are led by Whitney Weber who is hitting .380 this season. Lexi Belligan has a team-high 27 RBIs, but the true battle will come from the circle where Taylor Reidhead has 60 strikeouts this season. The team has four wins in its last five games with a current sweep of CSU-Pueblo.
