Grizzlies End Homestand Against a Pair of Conference Rivals

ALAMOSA, Colo. - Adams State Men's Basketball is back in action this weekend with two home games. Looking to snap a two-game skid, the Grizzlies will play host to a pair of conference rivals.

Tip-Off
• The Grizzlies (4-10, 4-5 RMAC) are back home for the second straight weekend as the get set to closeout a four-game homestand. They will look to snap a two-game losing streak as they make their way through the second half of RMAC play.
• Entering this weekend, Adams State is in a four-way tie for eight place in the RMAC standings with MSU Denver, South School of Mines, and Westminster College. All four squads have a 4-5 mark in RMAC play.
• The Grizzlies dropped back-to-back games last weekend as they fell to Colorado School of Mines, 84-70, and UCCS, 83-80. It is only the second time this season the Grizzlies have dropped two straight RMAC games.
• Following the homestand, Adams State will spend the next two weeks on the road before returning to Plachy Hall Gym. The four-game road trip will get started at Colorado Christian on Friday, Jan. 25.

Adams State Breakdown
• The Grizzlies come into the weekend as still one of the highest scoring teams in the RMAC. They are averaging 81.1 points per game which is fifth best in the conference. They shoot an average of 44.7% form the floor and 32.6% from beyond the arc.
• Adams State is second to last in defense as they allow 84.9 points per contest on 49.5% shooting from the floor. Opponents shoot an average of 37.2% from three-point range against Adams State.
• John Dewey continues to lead the scoring efforts for the Grizzlies with an average of 17.9 points per game. He is one of four Grizzlies averaging double-digit points and is sixth in the RMAC.
• Davere Creighton is Adams State's second leading scorer with 14.9 points per game. He leads the team in double-doubles with five this season. He has scored under 10 points in just three games this season.
• Shemar Johnson and Rickey Norris round out the double figure scoring with 13.2 and 12.3 points per game, respectively. Johnson shoots 49.2% from the floor which leads the team and is 11th best in the RMAC.
• The Grizzlies continues to shoot the ball extremely well from the free throw line and now lead the RMAC as a team. They shoot 75.8% on average and are led by Dewey who shoots 93.3% which the top individual mark in the conference.
• Creighton is still the top rebounder with an average of 7.9 boards per contest. He is tied for second in the RMAC and has five double-double performances this season. Norris is second with an average of 6.3 boards off the bench.
• Dewey is the offensive facilitator as well as he leads the team in assists with 4.1 per game. His average is third in the conference and he has 58 on the season. Norris is second averaging 2.4 assists per game.
• Dewey and Norris are also first and second for Adams State in steals, respectively. Dewey averages 1.5 per game while Norris is at 1.3 per game. Both rank in the top-20 in the RMAC.
• Norris and Johnson are the rim protectors still for the Grizzlies as both are averaging 0.8 blocks per game. Norris has the most block with 10, while Johnson has tallied nine.
• Dewey is also third in the RMAC in minutes played with an average of 34.1 per contest.

Scouting Colorado Mesa
• The Mavericks enter the weekend with an 11-4 overall record and are 6-3 in the RMAC. They are currently tied for third in the conference standings.
• CMU is averaging the second highest amount of points per game in the RMAC at 85.7 per contest. They average a 53.3 shooting percentage from the floor which leads the conference and are 39.3% from three-point range.
• Defensively, the Mavericks give up an average of 79.6 points to their opponents. The opposition averages a 45.9 shooting percentage overall and is 38.2% from beyond the arc.
• Three players are averaging double-digit points for CMU in Connor Nichols, Tommy Nuno and Damon Dubots. Nichols is the leader not only for CMU but is the top scorer in the conference at 23.6 points per game. he shoot 57.1% from the floor which is second in the RMAC.
• Nuno is second in scoring with an average of 12.9 points per contest. He is the RMAC leader leader in field goal percentage as well at 61.0%. Dubots is third for the Mavericks with an average of 12.2 points per game.
• Nichols is also the leading rebounder for CMU with an average of 7.8 boards per contest. He sits fourth in the RMAC with his average. Nuno is second in rebounding with an average of 5.3 per game.
• Brandon Hoffer is the top assist man for the Mavericks at 5.1 per game and has 76 total on the season. His average and total number of assists are both the top mark in the conference.
• Three players all have six blocks this season to tie the team lead at 0.4 swats per game. Nuno, Dubots, and Michael Skinner are tied for lead for CMU.
• Helping the Mavericks defense is their steals. they have 122 total and average 8.13 per game all of which are second best in the RMAC.
• Nichols is the leader at 1.6 per game and 24 total. Nuno is right behind him at 23 total and 1.5 per game. Skinner also averages 1.5 per game and has 22 on the season. Hoffer is also averaging just over one per game at 1.3 and has 19 total.

Scouting Western Colorado
• The Mountaineers are just 3-12 overall coming into the weekend. They are 0-9 in the RMAC and are currently on a nine-game losing streak.
• Western Colorado averages 77.5 points per game on 43.7% shooting from the field. The team is 36.7% from three-point range.
• On the defensive end, the Mountaineers allow the most points per game at 85.3. Opponents shoot an average of 48.8% from the floor and 36.3% from beyond the arc.
• One thing that Western Colorado does well is rebound the ball. they lead the RMAC in rebounding with an average of 37.2 boards per game.
• Four players average 10-plus points per game led by Quincy Harding who puts up 18.7 points per game. His average is fifth best in the conference and he shoots 44.9% from the floor.
• Brady Subart is second in scoring at 13.4 points per game. Cole Sienknecht and Jaire Roberts round out the scoring at 12.0 point sand 11.5 points per game, respectively.
• Jackson Ehrlin is the leading rebounder for the Mountaineers with 6.7 boards per contest. Monroe Porter is second with 4.8 rebounds per game.
• Subart is the the top assist man with an average of 2.8 per contest. Jake Wilcox is second at 2.1 per game.
• Ehrlin is also the leader in blocks with six total. He and Harding both average 0.4 per game, while Harding is second with five total blocks.
• Monroe Porter has the most steals with 16 total and averages 1.1. Subart and Roberts are both second in total steals with 15 apiece.
