Grizzlies Back on Home Court as RMAC Play Heats Up

ALAMOSA, Colo. - Adams State Men's Basketball returns home for its next for games this weekend as the team continues conference play. The Grizzlies will look start the New Year at home on a positive note as they host a pair of tough RMAC opponents.

Tip-Off
• The Grizzlies are 4-8 overall coming into their first set home game in the New Year but are 4-3 in RMAC play. The Grizzlies are coming off a 1-1 road trip last weekend and are winners in two of their last three overall. 
• Adams State started the New Year last Friday, Jan. 4 at Chadron State and fell 93-86 but bounced back with a 68-62 win at MSU Denver on Saturday, Jan. 5. 
• The Grizzlies will remain at home next weekend as RMAC play heats up. They will host Colorado Mesa on Friday, Jan. 18 and Western Colorado on Saturday, Jan. 19.
• Entering this weekend, Adams State is a three-way tie for seventh in the conference with MSU Denver and Chadron State. All three teams are 4-3 in the RMAC.

Adams State Breakdown
• The Grizzlies are still one of the highest scoring teams in the RMAC this season. They average 82.4 points per game which is fourth highest in the conference and shoot 45.9% from the floor which is tied for eighth in the RMAC.
• Defensively, Adams State allows the most points per game in the conference at 85.8 points. The opposition shoots 49.8% on average which the highest average in the RMAC.
• From three-point range, the Grizzlies only average a 32.8 shooting percentage which is the lowest in the conference, but they hold opponents to 36% which is fifth best in the conference.
• Four players are averaging double-digit points for Adams State with John Dewey leading the way at 18.0 points per game. His average is sixth in the RMAC and he shoots 42.1% from the floor which is 18th in the conference.
Davere Creighton is the second leading scorer at 15.3 points per game. He is 13th in the conference in scoring. Rounding out the double figure scoring for the Grizzlies is Shemar Johnson at 12.8 points per game and Rickey Norris at 12.5 points per game.
• Johnson shoots 46.4% on average which is 13th best in the conference which leads the way for Adams State.
• As a team, the Grizzlies shoot 74.9% from the free throw line which is fifth best in the RMAC. Dewey has played a big role as he averages 91.7% from the charity strip on 66-72 made shots.
• Creighton is the team's top rebounder averaging 7.5 boards per game which is tied for fifth in the RMAC. Norris is the second leading rebounder at 6.4 per contest.
• Dewey leads the team in assists per game at 4.4 which is tied for second highest in the conference. He also has an assist-turnover of 1.23 which is 12th in the RMAC.
• Norris and Dewey are leaders in steals. Norris has the higher average at 1.5 per game while Dewey averages 1.4. Dewey has 17 steals total with Norris totaling 15. Both rank in the top-20 in the conference with their average.
• Norris has the most blocks for the Grizzlies with seven in 10 games played. He averages 0.7 blocks per game.

Scouting Colorado School of Mines
• The Orediggers come into the weekend as the top team in the RMAC with a 7-0 conference record and are 10-3 overall. They have won their last nine games and boast a 4-2 record in true road games.
• Mines is one spot ahead of the Grizzlies in scoring at third in the RMAC with an average of 83.6 points per game. They are second in the conference in field goal percentage at 49.6%. They also have the RMAC's best three-point field goal percentage at 43%.
• On the defensive side, the Orediggers also have one of the best defense's holding opponents to an average of 70.1 points per game which is third best in the RMAC. Opponents shoot an average of 43.7% against the Orediggers which is fourth lowest in the conference.
• Five players are averaging double figures for Mines, with two tied for the team lead. Mason Baker and Ben Sonnefeld are the top-scorers at 14.4 points per game. Both rank in the top-20 in the RMAC.
• Ben Clare is the third leading scorer at 11.3 points per game. Rounding out the double-digit scorers are Brendan Sullivan at 11.0 points per game and Michael Glen at 10.5 points per game. Baker is the leading free throw shooter at 85.1% on 63-74 shooting. His average is fifth best in the conference. 
• Glen is the Orediggers best rebounder with an average of 6.8 per contest. He is tied for seventh in the conference with his average. The second leading rebounder is Clare at 5.8 boards per game
• Sonnefeld has the most assists with 57 total and averages 4.4 per game. He is tied for second in the conference in average and has the best assist-turnover ratio at 2.9.
• Baker leads the team in steals with an average of 1.3 per game and has 17 total in 13 games played. Sonnefeld is second averaging 0.8 per game and has 10 total steals.
• Three Orediggers are averaging just over one block per game. Clare averages 1.3 and has tallied 17 total. Glen is tied for second at 1.2 with Sullivan. The pair has a combined 31 blocks. All three are in the top-10 in the RMAC in block average and total blocks.

Scouting UCCS
• The Mountain Lions are three games above .500 at 8-5 overall and are 5-2 in RMAC play. They are winners of their last six games but are just 2-3 on the road.
• UCCS is one spot behind Adams State at 82.3 points per game which is fifth best in the RMAC. They shoot an average of 46% from the floor but shoot just 33.1% from three-point range.
• Defensively, the Mountain Lions give up 78.8 points per game to their opponents on 46% while allowing a 33.8 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Their defensive average from three-point range is fourth best in the RMAC.
• Five players are scoring 10-plus points per game on average entering the weekend. Blend Avdili leads the way at 14.4 points per game on 54.3% shooting. His percentage is seventh highest in the RMAC.
• Padiet Wang is the second leading scorer at 12.6 points per game. Brandon Malone is third an an even 11.0 points per game. DaRaun Clark and Dalton Walker round things out scoring wise at 10.6 and 10.1 points per game, respectively.
• Wang is the leading rebounder with 5.3 boards per game. Avdili is second at 3.8 rebounds per game. Avdili leads the team in assists at 2.8 per game, while Wang is second at 2.5 per game.
• Wang is not only the team leader in steals for UCCS but is also the RMAC leader at 2.5 per game. He also has the most total steals at 30. Wang is also the leader in blocks with 10 total and averages 0.8 per game.
