ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Women's Volleyball team heads to South Dakota to take on Black Hills State and South Dakota School of Mines. The Grizzlies are moving in to the weekend on the road 7-13 overall and 4-7 in conference.
The Grizzlies are moving out of a tough weekend at home against Regis and Colorado Christian. The Grizzlies played the Rangers in three tough sets. Adams State again played another close match against Colorado Christian, taking the Cougars to five sets.
Leading the Grizzlies both offensively and defensively is
Hannah Goddard. On the season so far, Goddard has 172 kills, 17 service aces, and 196 digs. Following Goddard is
Shannon Mulkey with 137 kills and is leading the team with 65 blocks. Leading in Assists for the Grizzly attack is
Bailey Schlosser, racking up 425 assists. Schlosser is also on the leader board with 152 digs.
Mackenzie Swanson is leading the Grizzlies with 26 service aces and 220 digs.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
Black Hills State (8-11, 6-5 RMAC) are coming off of a split weekend, falling to Colorado Mesa in five sets, and defeating Western Colorado in three. With the Win against Western Colorado, Black Hills State bounced back from two losses the weekend prior to MSU-Denver and Charon State. Yellow Jackets to watch out for are Madison Hoopman and Sierra Ward on the attack. Hooper has 193 kills on the season, as Ward has 164. Assisting a majority of the kills are Laurel Lech tallying 414 assists, and Tess Thomas with 300. Defensively, Lech is second on the team with 218 digs, behind Haedyn Rhoades with 349. Peyton Bodemann is leading the Yellow Jackets with 61 blocks.
Historically, Adams State has done rather well against Black Hills, holding the record at 6-1. The Grizzlies have defeated the Yellow Jackets the past four times the two have gone head-to-head. Last year, the Grizzlies beat Black Hills State 3-1 in Alamosa, Colo. Black Hills State came out strong in the first set, winning 25-20 over the Grizzlies. Adams State dominated the next three, winning 25-9, 25-15, and 25-21.
The Grizzlies will take on the Yellow Jackets tomorrow night, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Spearfish, S.D.
Scouting the Hardrockers
South Dakota School of Mines (9-11, 5-6 RMAC) are moving in to the weekend off of a big win against Western Colorado and a loss to Colorado Mesa. The Hardrockers took the 3-2 win against the Mountaineers and fell 3-1 to the Mavericks. South Dakota School of Mines will first take on the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis Friday, Oct. 25, then face the Grizzlies Saturday, Oct. 26.
The Hardrockers have some big names to watch out for. On the attack, Dana Thomson is leading South Dakota School of Mines with 338 kills, followed by Caryn Hazard with 193. Assisting a majority of the kills for the Hardrockers and is ranked 7th in RMAC for Shyann Bastian, with 576 assists. Jacey Koethe is another Hardrocker to look out for, as she is leading her team with 75 blocks. Anna Thomas is another big name for South Dakota School of Mines with 456 digs and 25 service aces.
The Grizzlies are 5-0 against South Dakota School of Mines. Adams State has defeated the Hardrockers 3-0 in four of their five previous matches. Last year in Alamosa, Colo. South Dakota School of Mines fell 3-1 in four well fought sets. The Grizzlies are looking to capitalize on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Rapid City, S.D.

The Grizzlies will be back out on the road again next week, traveling to Gunnison, Colo. Nov. 1 to take on Western Colorado and to Grand Junction, Colo. Nov. 2 to challenge Colorado Mesa.
