NEW ORLEANS - The United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its National of the Week honors and Adams State sprinter
Kandace Thomas earned the weekly honor.
Thomas had a solid weekend on the track for the Grizzlies as she put her name back on top of the 60m dash list. The senior ran a 7.29 in the prelims of the event to take over the top time in Division II. She also currently owns the top time in Division II in the 200m dash at 23.93. Thomas is the first female athlete in program history and third overall to earn the indoor weekly recognition.
The USTFCCCA also released its week four top-25 rankings and the Grizzlies stood above the rest of the field at the No. 1 spot for both men and women. The women grabbed the top spot for the first time since the 2014 season, while the men held the No. 1 ranking for the second consecutive week.
The Grizzlies are showing well across the boards this indoor season with a number of top performances from both the men and women. They will look to keep themselves in the top spot as they get set for the conference indoor championships in two weeks.Â
The top-five for the men saw some changes. Adams State and Ashland remained No. 1 and 2, while Grand Valley State jumped one spot to No. 3. Tiffin slipped one spot this week to fourth while Central Missouri moved up two spots to fifth to round out the top-five.
The women's top-five saw some changes as well. Adams State jumped Grand Valley State to take over the No. 1 spot. GVSU sits second, while Lincoln (Mo.) moved up to third. San Francisco State fell one spot to fourth and UCCS entered the top-five at fifth after being sixth a week ago.
The Grizzlies will host the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in two weeks on Feb. 22-23.
