ALAMOSA, Colo. - Adams State Softball is back on the road as the team heads to its second straight tournament to start the 2019 season. The Grizzlies will face a pair of Texas schools at the ASU George & Ola McCorkle Challenge in San Angelo, Texas.

Leading Off
• The Grizzlies enter the weekend in search of their first win of the season. They are 0-3 after opening the year at the US Bank ENMU Softball Classic Kickoff last weekend.
• Adams State will only face two opponents over the three day span of the ASU George & Ola McCorkle Challenge in Texas A&M International and host Angelo State.
• All three of the Grizzlies games against the Rambelles will have live video and live stats, while their three games against the Dustdevils will only have live stats.
• Following the Angelo State Tournament, Adams State will remain on the road as they had to Denver for a two-day doubleheader series at Regis on Feb. 16 and 17.

Taylor at the Helm
• Head Coach
Dervin Taylor is in his 12th season leading the Adams State Softball program. Coach Taylor is 266-275 overall in leading the Grizzlies.
Last Time Out
• The Grizzlies went 0-3 last weekend to start the 2019 season. They fell to Oklahoma Baptist twice, and host Eastern New Mexico once.
• Game one got off to a slow start as neither team produced a run in the first three innings. The Bison then scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth and held on for the 8-3 win.
• Game two of the ENMU Classic saw Adams State face the host school in Eastern New Mexico. A solo home run in the second from
Julia Jimenez gave Adams State a 1-0 lead, but a late sixth inning rally from the Greyhounds help them secure a 4-1 win.
• The final game saw the Grizzlies get out to a solid start as they scored seven runs in the first three innings. The Bison did manage three runs in the first inning and used a late rally in the seventh inning to down the Grizzlies 8-7.
Bat Power
• A pair of Grizzlies are already hitting over .400 to start the season for the Grizzlies.
Samantha McDonald is off to solid start as she leads the team with a .444 batting average.
• McDonald's averages comes on four hits in nine at bats. She has scored a run and has double on the year.

Shelby Haskins is also providing power early on for Adams State with a .429 batting average. She leads the team in home runs with two and RBI with three.
• As a unit, the Grizzlies already have seven homers on the year. Joining Haskins in the group are
Brittany Phillips,
Sarah Hansen,
Sarah Rocha,
Julia Jimenez, and
Mercedes Salazar. The five hitters all have one apiece.
• Phillips also has two RBI this season and is batting .200. Parker is right in front of her hitting .250 going into this weekend's tournament.
In the Circle
• A trio Grizzlies have all stepped into the circle for the Grizzlies this season in
Brittany Phillips,
Jade Garbiso, and
Taylor Sandoval.
• Phillips leads the group in ERA at 3.00. In 9,1 innings of work she has struck out four batters and allowed five hits, four of which that are earned.
• Garbiso has the most strikeouts for Adams State with six in 7.1 innings pitched.
On the Road Again
• The Grizzlies start the 2019 season with their first 17 games on the road or at a neutral site.
• Adams State plays 37 total games away from Alamosa this season. They play just 16 games at home during the 2019 campaign.
Scouting Texas A&M International
• The Dustdevils enter the weekend two games under .500 at 2-4. They have wins over Washburn and Colorado School of Mines.
• Texas A&M International will look to snap a two-game skid when they open up the Angelo state Tournament against Adams State.
• Three players are batting .300 or better for the Dustdevils. Maya Paul leads the hitting charge with a .348. She is 8-23 with a run scored and has a double.
• Heather Ruiz is the second leading hitter at .316. she has six hits in 19 plate appearances to go along with a RBI.
• Lindsey Smith rounds out the .300 club with a .304 batting average. She is 7-23 going into the weekend with four runs scored, two doubles, and two RBI.
• Shelby Edwards leads the team in RBI with six and has the Dustdevils' lone home run.
• Four pitchers have stepped into the circle already for Texas A&M International. Sara Caterson sports a 0.72 ERA to lead the group in 9.2 innings pitched.
• Jenika Lambrana has the most innings under her belt in the circle. she has worked 15.1 innings, sorts a 4.02 ERA, and leads the team in strikeouts with 14.
Scouting Angelo State
• The Belles are 4-1 to start the 2019 season. They started the year winning their first four before dropping their first contest of the year.
• Angelo State entered the year picked No. 6 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Preseason Top-25 Poll. They are also favored to win the Lone Star Conference this year.
• Avery Zeigler leads the way for the hitting lineup with a .417 batting average. She is 5-12 on the year with a team-high five RBI and has scored three runs.
• Courtney Barnhill has the most runs scored with six and is batting .267 with four RBI to sit second on the team. She also leads the team in homers with two on the year.
• Ashlyn Lerma, Taylor Fogle, and Jade Strother are all batting .250. Fogle is tied for second in BRI with four, while Lerma is also tied for second in runs scored with three.
• Three Belles have stepped in the circle to start the season. Meagan Hill leads the group with a 1.60 ERA. She leads the team in strikeouts with 12 and has a 3-0 record.
• Makayla Corbin has fanned four batters this season and sports a 2.93 ERA with a 1-0 record. She and Hill have both appeared in four games with two start
• Victoria Vasquez has six strikeouts on the season so far and boasts a 3.82 ERA. She has appeared in two games, made one start, and is 0-1 on the year.
