Grizzlies Remain In-State For Weekend Pod Series

ALAMOSA, Colo. - Adams State Softball is back on the road this weekend for another pod series. The Grizzlies will not travel as far as weather forced their series in Nebraska to in-state at neutral site.

Leading off
• The Grizzlies come into the weekend series with a 5-19 overall mark and are 5-7 in RMAC play.
• Adams State spent its last two weekends at home against a pair of RMAC foes and went 5-3 in that span.
• The Grizzlies were originally supposed to play their pod series in Nebraska, but heavy snowfall has forced the series to Pueblo, Colo.
• Adams State will look to get back to .500 in RMAC competition as they will play CSC and Mines twice, respectively.
• Following their neutral site showdown, the Grizzlies will remain on the road next weekend as RMAC action will continue on.

Last Time Out

• Adams State hosted Black Hills State in its home series last weekend and split the series, 2-2.
• Both of the Grizzlies wins were in game two each day. The Grizzlies avoided a day one sweep with a hard fought 6-4 win in game two.
• Adams State grabbed a commanding 11-2 lead in the series finale but Black Hills State tied the game at 11-all, before Zoe Munn hit a walkoff double to secure the series split.
• Pitchers Taylor Sandoval and Brittany Phillips each picked up the wins in the Grizzlies 2-2 weekend at home.
 
Grizzlies on the Bats
• Brittany Phillips still leads the team on offense with a .383 batting average. She has a team-high eight RBI and has hit two home runs this year.
• Sarah Rocha has found a rhythm as of late and is now batting .315 going into the weekend. She has four doubles and has racked up six RBI. She also leads the team in runs scored with 13.
• Shelby Haskins is batting .268 to sit third overall on the team. She has six RBI to go along with a pair of home runs.
• Zoe Munn leads the team in RBI with 12 in just 15 games played this season and is batting .342. She also has the most doubles this season with seven so far.
• Kenzie Lange is the top power hitter for the Grizzlies with three home runs on the year. She also has tallied 11 RBI and scored eight runs.
• Samantha McDonald has led the team so far in stolen bases with seven total on nine attempts. She is batting .245 and her base stealing ability has helped her scored nine runs this year.
 
Inside the Circle
• A trio of pitchers continue to see the majority of work inside the circle for Adams State and all three have played well in RMAC play.
• Brittany Phillips leads the group with a 4.32 ERA in RMAC games. Overall, she has appeared in 15 games and made six starts. Phillips has 17 strikeout sin 49 innings pitched.
• Jade Garbiso has started the most games still with 12 this year and has appeared in 14 total. She tied for most innings pitched with 49. She leads the squad in strikeouts with 25.
• Taylor Sandoval rounds out the trio for Adams State. She has appeared in a team-high 17 games, while making six starts. She has pitched 42.1 innings and has fanned 13 batters.
 
Road Warriors
• The Grizzlies started the 2019 campaign with their first 17 games away from Alamosa.
• Adams State plays 37 total games away from Alamosa this season.
• 16 of the next 20 games for the Grizzlies will be played on the road.
 
There's No Place Like Home
• The Grizzlies are at home for just 16 games during the 2019 campaign.
• Adams State has had success on its home turf as the team has finished above .500 in seven of the last nine seasons since the turn of the decade.
• The Grizzlies have racked up 11 wins at home in each of the last two seasons.
• Since the 2010 season, Adams State is 104-78 on their home field.
 
Scouting Chadron State
• The Eagles enter the weekend pod series with a 5-16 overall record and are 2-9 in RMAC play.
• CSC is coming off a 2-2 series at Regis. CSC swept day one but came back and was swept on day two.
• Two players are batting over .400 to lead the Eagles in Haleigh Hoefs at .452 and Bailey Marvel at .419.
• Hoefs has scored 16 runs this season and hit 17 RBI on the year. She is slugging .758 and has three home runs on the year to go along with 10 doubles.
• Marvel is tied with Hoefs in runs scored with 16. The duo are tied for second overall. Marvel has six RBI and leads the team in stolen bases with seven on nine attempts.
• Kayla Michel has been the biggest push on offense with a team-high 31 RBI so far this season. She also leads the team in home runs with seven and is batting .343.
• Two other players are hitting over .300 in Alyssa Geist and Ellie Owens. Geist is hitting .338, while Owens is hitting .309.
• A number of pitchers have been used this season by the Eagles. Gabby Russell has the most sports with six and sporting a 9.98 ERA.
• Megan Horn has the most strikeouts with 24 in 30.2 innings of work. She has a .5.48 ERA in seven games played. She is 3-4 on the year.
• Cassidy Horn has made the most relief appearances with 10 games and started just one. She is third strikeouts with 14 on the year.
• Dallas Magnusson has been a help in relief with nine appearances and sports a 4.47 ERA. She is second in strikeouts with 18 and has pitched a team-high 31.1 innings.
 
Scouting Colorado School of Mines
• The Orediggers are 7-10 overall and 6-3 in conference play entering the weekend.
• Mines split its four game series against then No. 12 Colorado Mesa, winning game one on both days.
• Kendall Murphy leads the bats with a .375 batting average and is second in RBI with 11. She leads the team in doubles with seven and runs scored with 13.
• Clara Larson also is batting over .300 with 321 and is the team leader in RBI with 15 and has the most triples with two.
• Megan Dickson is just under .300 with her batting average at .294. She has scored six runs, has six doubles, and six RBI.
• Kelsey Nuechler and Stefanie Brunello are the top base stealers for the Orediggers as the pair are 4-4 in stolen bases this season.
• Four pitchers have seen action inside the circle this year. Clair Stringfellow leads the group in ERA with 2.87. She has appeared in 14 games, made six starts, and fanned 17 batters.
• Sydney Marchando sports a 3.06 ERA for Mines and has pitched the most innings at 52.2. She also leads the team in strikeouts with 47 on the year and has a 5-3 record.

• Following the pod series, Adams State will remain on the road for a four-game series at Colorado Mesa on March 23 and 24.
