Grizzlies Take On 18th-Ranked Mavericks On the Road

ALAMOSA, Colo. - Adams State Softball is back on the road this weekend for another road series. The Grizzlies will travel to Grand Junction, Colo. to take on the 18th-ranked Colorado Mesa Mavericks.

Leading off
• The Grizzlies come into the weekend series with a 6-22 overall mark and are 6-10 in RMAC play.
• Adams State played a pod series last weekend in Pueblo Colorado against both Chadron State and the Colorado School of Mines
• The Grizzlies were originally supposed to play their pod series in Nebraska, but heavy snowfall has forced the series to Pueblo, Colo.
• Adams Sate will look to play spoiler this weekend as Colorado Mesa is sitting at number two in the standings right behind Colorado Christian
• Next week the Grizzlies will be back home as they take on Metro State University.

Last Time Out
• At the neutral site games last weekend Adams State went 1-3 with their only win coming in extra innings against Chadron State
• The Grizzlies win came thanks of three runs in the sixth inning and then a single run in both the eighth and ninth innings. 
• After being shut out in the first game of the series the Grizzlies played each of the next four games close losing by one to Chadron, followed by the win, and then losing by only five in the last game to Colorado School of Mines.
 
Grizzlies on the Bats
Brittany Phillips still leads the team on offense with a .364 batting average. She has a team-high 11 RBI and has hit three home runs this year.
• Sarah Rocha has found a rhythm as of late and is now batting .293 going into the weekend. She has four doubles and has racked up six RBI. She also leads the team in runs scored with 13.
• Shelby Haskins is batting .298 to sit second overall on the team. She has six RBI to go along with three home runs.
• Zoe Munn leads the team in RBI with 12 in just 18 games played this season and is batting .348. She also has the most doubles this season with seven so far.
• Mercedes Salazar has done well in her playing as well, batting .304 with four doubles and eight RBI.
Samantha McDonald has led the team so far in stolen bases with eight total on ten attempts. She is batting .226 and her base stealing ability has helped her scored ten runs this year.
 
Inside the Circle
• A trio of pitchers continue to see the majority of work inside the circle for Adams State and all three have played well in RMAC play.
• Brittany Phillips leads the group with a 3.92 ERA in RMAC games. Overall, she has appeared in 16 games and made seven starts. Phillips has 19 strikeouts in 55.0 innings pitched.
• Jade Garbiso has started the most games still with 14 this year and has appeared in 16 total. She leads the team in innings pitched with 61.1. She leads the squad in strikeouts with 31.
• Taylor Sandoval rounds out the trio for Adams State. She has appeared in a team-high 19 games, while making seven starts. She has pitched 50.0 innings and has fanned 14 batters.
 
Road Warriors
• The Grizzlies started the 2019 campaign with their first 17 games away from Alamosa.
• Adams State plays 37 total games away from Alamosa this season.
• 12 of the next 16 games for the Grizzlies will be played on the road.
 
There's No Place Like Home
• The Grizzlies are at home for just 16 games during the 2019 campaign.
• Adams State has had success on its home turf as the team has finished above .500 in seven of the last nine seasons since the turn of the decade.
• The Grizzlies have racked up 11 wins at home in each of the last two seasons.
• Since the 2010 season, Adams State is 104-78 on their home field.
 
Scouting Colorado Mesa
• The Mavericks enter the weekend 20-6 overall and 13-3 in RMAC play. They are also ranked No. 18 in the latest NFCA Top-25 poll going into the weekend.
• The Mavericks are coming off a sweep of MSU Denver last weekend in Denver.
• Two players are batting over .400 to lead the Mavericks in AnnMarie Torres at .521 and Brooke Doumer at .419.
• Torres has hit eight home runs on the season and has 34 RBI, both numbers lead the team.
• Doumer has nine doubles on the year and has four stolen bases in four attempts.
• Kellie Mrofcza is hitting .395 with 31 RBI and five home runs, all top three numbers on the team.
• There have been for pitchers used for Colorado Mesa this season, they all have an ERA under 3.30
• McKenzie has a 2.41 ERA and has a record of 9-0 on the season. She also has 32 strikeouts in 40.2 innings pitched
• Kimbri Herring has the most appearances with 15, she has a 7-3 record with 49 strikeouts in 65.1 innings pitched.
