Grizzlies Return Home to Face Roadrunners

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Softball is back on its home turf this weekend as RMAC play rolls on. The Grizzlies are set to host the MSU Denver Roadrunners in a four game set.

WHEN: Saturday, March 30 (DH) – 12 & 2 p.m.
              Sunday, March 31 (DH) – 11 a.m. & 1 p.m.
 
WHERE: Alamosa, Colo. – ASU Softball Field
 
Leading Off
• The Grizzlies return home to Alamosa after spending the last two weeks on the road.
• Adams State comes into the weekend series 6-25 overall and 6-13 in the RMAC. The team will look to end a four-game skid going into the weekend series.
• The Grizzlies will the road for their next two series before playing on their home field again following the series against MSU Denver.

Last Time Out

• Adams State was swept on the road against then No. 18-ranked Colorado Mesa in three games.
• The Grizzlies struggled to get any offense going as they managed just seven hits in three games.
• Adams State fell 9-0 in five innings in all three games, while game four was cancelled due to rain.

• Holding down the top spot for the Grizzlies is Brittany Phillips who is batting .344 going into the weekend.
• Phillips has 21 hits on the year, with three double and is tied for the team lead in home runs with three. She is tied for second in RBI with 11.
Shelby Haskins is second in batting average at .288. She has seven RBI on the year and is tied for the lead in home runs with three.
• Not far behind Haskins, is Selby Rocha with a .283 batting average. She is 17-60 this season and has tallied six RBI.
Kenzie Lange is also tied for the team lead in home runs with three while batting .217 this season for the Grizzlies.
Samantha McDonald is the team's top base stealer with nine this season on 12 attempts. She is also hitting .235 and is tied for the team lead in runs scored with 10.
 
Inside the Circle
Jade Garbiso has the most starts under her belt for Adams State with 15 this season. She sports an 8.57 ERA and has fanned a team-high 32 batters in 65.1 innings pitched.
Taylor Sandoval has the most appearances with 20 and has made seven starts. She has 9.18 ERA and in 501. Innings of works she has struck out 14 batters.
Brittany Phillips has the top ERA at 7.89 in 18 games appearances to go along with nine starts. She has pitched 63 innings and struck out 19 batters.
 
Road Warriors
• The Grizzlies started the 2019 campaign with their first 17 games away from Alamosa.
• Adams State plays 37 total games away from Alamosa this season.
• Of the remaining 20 games for the Grizzlies, 12 will be played on the road.
 
There's No Place Like Home
• The Grizzlies are at home for just 16 games during the 2019 campaign.

Scouting MSU Denver
• The Roadrunners come into the weekend series 15-19 overall and 10-8 in the RMAC.
• MSU Denver is coming off a midweek doubleheader split against Colorado Christian this past Tuesday.
• The Roadrunners have struggled away from their home turf as they are just 3-6 in neutral site or true road games.
• A number of payers are batting over .300 for the Roadrunners with a pair of players hitting over .400 and are two of the best in the RMAC.
• Darby McGhee is the team's top batters with a .407 average. She has 30 RBI on the year to go along with 18 runs scored, 16 doubles and four home runs.
• Rebecca Gonzales is not far behind with a .405 batting average. She is two back in doubles with 14 and has 20 RBI to go along with 13 runs scored on the year. She is 8-10 in stolen bases to lead the team.
• JJ Shepard is third with a .347 batting average, while Celyn White is fourth with .325 batting average. White is third in RBI with 14.
• Laney Sheppard rounds out the .300 hitting club with a .305 batting average to go along with 11 runs scored and 13 RBI. She leads the team in home runs with five on the year.
• Ashlee Kim leads the Roadrunners in runs scored with 20 this season and his hitting .287. She also has knocked 12 RBI and has a team-high four triples.
• Four pitchers have all seen action inside the circle this year. McGhee leads the quartet with a 2.75 ERA in 19 games played to go along with 15 starts.
• McGhee has pitched the most inning at 99.1 innings and is the leader in strikeouts with 83. She is 6-8 on the year and has two saves.
• Julia Heitz sports 4.02 ERA in 17 game appearances and is 4-5. She has nine starts under her belt and is second in fanned batters with 39 in 71.1 innings of work.
• Destinee Lopez is 2-1 on the year in nine game splayed to go along with three starts. She has a 4.27 ERA in 19.2 inning pitched and has fanned 14 batters.
• Kylee Burnside sports a 5.06 ERA and has a 3-5 record. She has pitched 37.1 innings and struck out 17 batters in 13 game appearances while making seven starts.
 
Up Next
• Adams State will hit the road once again for the next two series starting next weekend with a four-game set at CSU-Pueblo.
• The Grizzlies and ThunderWolves will play their series on April 6-7. First pitch for the day one doubleheader is set for 12 p.m.
