Grizzlies Take On Golden Bears in Pueblo

ALAMOSA, Colo. - After a three week hiatus, the Adams State Women's Lacrosse team is set to return to action this Tuesday for a neutral site non-conference game. The Grizzlies will travel to Pueblo, Colo. to battle the Concordia, St. Paul Golden Bears.

Opening Faceoff
• Adams State enter the weekend with a 0-1 overall record following a 24-1 season opening loss to UCCS back on Feb. 16
• The Grizzlies match-up against the Mountain Lions did not count as a RMAC game but was an in-region game.
• Following their neutral site game, Adams State will have a quick turnaround and be back in action on March 9.

• The Grizzlies suffered a setback in their 2019 season opener as they fell to the UCCS Mountain Lions by a final of 24-1.
• The lone Adams State goal came from Savannah Penland who was the team's leading scorer during the 2018 campaign.
• The Grizzlies were set to play Johnson & Wales the next day but poor traveling conditions forced their game to be cancelled.

Plut at the Helm
• Head Coach Monica Plut will make her debut as the bench boss for Adams State this Tuesday.
• Plut was brought in as an Associate Head Coach in early January but now oversees the entirety of the program.

What to Watch For
• With the Grizzlies only playing one game so far this season there is still room to see who will be a factor during the 2019 season.
• Junior Savannah Penland will once again look to be the leader on offense once again as she returns as the team's leading scorer from a season ago.
• In net, Louisa Sanchez already has one start under her belt. She notched 15 saves in the season opener in 60 minutes of action.
• Looking to help on both sides of the ball this year will be Madison Gerchow and Alexis Wellong. Both players along with Sanchez all had a pair of groundball pickups in the opener.
• Hannah Vigil and Alecia Begay each have a caused turnover this season and will look to be factors for the Grizzlies defensive game.
• Gerchow and Penland each have played roles in the middle in draw controls. Gerchow has a team-high four, while Penland is right behind her with three.

Scouting Concordia, St. Paul
• The Golden Bears are 1-1 to start the 2019 season. They opened the season with a 12-11 win at Rockhurst before falling 18-2 against then No.4-ranked Lindenwood.
• Concordia, St. Paul is in just its third overall season as a Division II program and boasts a 16-18 overall record.
• Alina Boyce leads the team on offense early one with four goals, while Mary Keating is the overall point leader with five points including four assists to lead the team.
• Kailey Heini and Erica Peterson each have four points on the season as well with have three goals and an assist respectively.
• The draw control leader for the Golden Bears is Margot Coomes with seven so far in two games played.
• Lexi Stanley is two back of tying Coomes with five draw controls and is the defensive leader with three caused turnovers.
• Overall career scoring leader Maddie Hentges has two points this season on a goal and a assist. She is the team leader in ground balls with four.
• In net, Katie Lottsfeldt got the season opening win for the Golden Bears and boasts a .400 save percentage entering the weekend.
• Claire Hagen also has seen time at goalkeeper after playing final nearly 39 minutes in the Lindenwood game. She has four saves and a .429 save percentage.

• Following the neutral site game, the Grizzlies will return to Alamosa for their 2019 home opener on Saturday, March 9.
• Adams State will host Notre Dame College (Ohio) for its home opener. game time is set for 1 p.m. at the ASU Lacrosse Field.
