Adams State Distance Harriers Highlight Bryan Clay Invite

AZUSA, Calif. – Adams State Track & Field wrapped up the first of three meets in California on Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational & Multi.

The Grizzlies had mostly distance runners compete at the three-day meet. The low elevation proved to be a major advantage for the Grizzlies as they posted a number of quality times in their respective events.

Day one saw Adams State have runners compete in the 10,000m run. On the men's side Dalton Graham finished sixth overall and was the top Division II finisher in the race. He crossed the line in 30:03.48 to earn his top-10 finish.

Also performing well in the 10,000 was Danny Dominguez who finished 14th overall in a time of 30:25.34. Dane Blomquist (31:16.68) finished 20th, while Joey Bender (31:22.01) was 21st.

For the Grizzly women, Malena Grover was also a top-10 finisher and the top Division II finisher in the 10,000. She was sixth in a time of 34:55.08.

Three spots back in ninth was Kaylee Bogina in a time of 35.12.82 to place in the top-10 as well for the 10,000. Sadie Baker finished 16th in the event in a time of 36:11.34.

Day two continued with more distance events and the Grizzlies once again did not disappoint. Elias Gedyon headlined the men's 5000m run with a 12th place finish overall. He was the second highest Division II finisher in a time of 13:45.66.

Isaiah Rodarte also competed in the 5000 and was 12th in his respective heat for the event. He crossed the line in a time of 14:18.78. Joshua Joseph finished 26th in the same heat with a time of 14:56.70.

On the women's side Eilish Flanagan had a solid performance placing eighth in the 5000. She crossed the line in 16:00.39 and was the second highest placing Division II runner in the event.

Haleigh Hunter-Galvan ran in heat three of the 5000 and was the second highest finisher in the heat. She crossed the line in 16:30.12 and was just three seconds back from the first place finisher. Desire Montenegro finished 31st in heat three running a 17:59.80.

The lone sprinter running at Bryan Clay was Augustine Larranga who competed in the 400m dash on day three. Like the distance harriers, Larranga did not disappoint as he ran a 48.57 in heat three. His time earned him a fifth place finish in his heat and it was the 26th fastest time for the event overall.

Roisin Flanagan highlighted day three with a 13th place finish in the 1500m run. She was the top Division II finisher for the race as she crossed the line in 4:16.42. Her time is also a new school record, breaking the previous time of 4:20.46 set by Victoria Martinez back in 2006.

Twin sister Eilish Flanagan was 40th in the 1500 with a time of 4:23.59. Stephanie Cotter was seven place back in 47th in a time of 4:25.21.

Hunter-Galvan also competed in the event and place 111th running a 4:33.18. Montenegro was 141st in a time of 4:44.86.

The 1500 was one of the most challenging races of day three for the Grizzly men as it had a stacked field of strong runners. Sydney Gidabuday was 54th in the event with a time of 3:46.64. Three seconds less is all that separated Gidabuday from finishing in the top-20.

Paddy Robb was 80th in the 1500 as he crossed the line in 3:49.07. Austin Speer finished 142nd with a time of 3:55.77 for the event.

The Grizzlies are still competition at a pair of meets in the Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invitational. Both meets will wrap up Saturday, April 20 (today).
