Grizzlies Head Back on the Road to Take on Mesa, Western

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies Men's Basketball team prepares to go in the road for the second straight weekend, as they will square off against conference foes Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado. After winning both games two weekends ago at home, the Grizzlies are now coming off two-straight losses to Colorado Mines and UCCS. They sit at 3-6 in RMAC play headed into this weekend's contests.

The star of last weekend and quite frankly, the entire season particularly on the offensive end, was guard Juwan Green, who dropped a season-high 37 points against UCCS on Saturday. Green is the key facilitator for the Grizzlies, and if defenses start to key-in on him, it could open up opportunities for other scorers. As has been the case this season, the Grizzlies tend to go as their shooting goes, and in night's they have shot the ball well they have typically won.

A player that the Grizzlies hope to get going this weekend is shooter Rylan O'brien, who was slowed down last weekend after a hot weekend in Alamosa the week before. O'brien is the Grizzlies' key marksman from outside, and the freshman will be asked to step up down the stretch in order to burn teams from deep. In games where he gets hot from outside, he is an extremely difficult player for opposing teams to stop, and he can benefit his team in a big way going up against Mesa and Western this weekend.

The Mavericks of Colorado Mesa come in boasting a 6-3 conference record, which is tied for second with UCCS. Tommy Nuno edged out Green for RMAC Offensive Player of the Week for his strong performance against in a win against New Mexico Highlands last weekend, as he notched what is considered to be the first ever triple-double for CMU Basketball with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. The Grizzlies hope to slow him down in Friday night's contest

Western Colorado comes in tied with Adams with a 3-6 conference record, which sets up a pivotal matchup on Saturday for two teams fighting to stay in the playoff hunt. The Mountaineers key defensive player, Monroe Porter, took home RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performances last weekend that included a 20-board night against Highlands. It will be a battle in the trenches between him and Rickey Norris on Saturday, who are both two of the toughest rebounders in the RMAC.

Friday night's game against Colorado Mesa from Grand Junction is set to tip-off at 7:30 PM on Friday with Saturday's matchup against Western set to go at 7. Live stats and stream will be provided by the opposing schools' sports information department.
