TOPEKA, Kan.— The Adams State Grizzlies Men's and Women's Track & field team were able to put out some great marks and times this weekend at the Ichabod Invitational inside the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
As the Grizzlies are winding down to the more intense part of their season, they featured some top performances in the distance events. In the women's 3,000-meters, Sarah Wills, who ran a time of 9:47.95 hit a provisional mark. She was followed by teammate Emily Schoellkopf, who ran a new personal best of 10:23.94. In the mile,
Stephanie Cotter held the lead from the start to win the race with a time of 4:46.85.
Morgan Hykes ran a new personal best with a time of 4:59.64. In the Women's 800-meters
Nicole Lawrence ran an impressive time of 2:18.74, while teammate
Brianna Robles debuted in her first 5,000-meter race this season hitting a provisional mark of 17:08.51.
The men's distance team had several athletes reach the provisional mark for nationals.
In the 3,000-meters
Carson Bix ran 8:10.50 while Miguel Coca posted a 8:16.38. Both those times broke the facility record and set provisional times. Adams State had numerous tops performances in the men's mile with
David Cardenas running a time of 4:08.79,
Alec Hall 4:10.25, and Clement Duigou 4:11.79.
Godfrey Chama ran an impressive 800 meters with a finishing time of 1:53.77. Chama also came back and raced his heart out in the 4x400 meter relay where they managed to finish with a time of 3:26.98 after dropping the baton. The Grizzlies had four men finishing in the top ten of the 5,000-meter with
Ahmed Sado 14:18.59,
Devin Paredes 14:53.74,
Justin Andrade 14:54.87, and
Davonte Jett-Reynolds 14:55.40.
On the sprints side
Jonah Vigil had an outstanding performance in the men's 200, finishing first with a time of 21.57.
The Grizzlies now turn their focus to RMAC championships, which will be held in South Dakota on Feb. 26-27
