MBB | Grizzlies set to take on Roadrunners in RMAC Quarterfinals

DENVER – The Adams State University Grizzlies are set to participate in the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament. The Grizzlies, who earned the fifth seed, will be on the road to take on No. 4 seeded MSU Denver at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday night at the Auraria Event Center.
 
Last time these two teams met was on January 7 in Denver and the Grizzlies overcame a 12-point deficit in the final seven minutes to pull out the 87-81 win.

About the Grizzlies
Adams State enters the tournament with a 9-8 overall and conference record and come off a victory over Regis on Saturday, 80-64.
 
Destan Williams averages 19.1 points and 5.1 assists per game, while Frederick Jackson adds 15.3 points and 7.0 rebounds and Kaelin Crane gets 13.2 points per game.
 
The Grizzlies are making their return to the Tournament after a one-year absence in which they failed to qualify in 2020. The Grizzlies participated in the 2019 tournament where they fell to the No. 1 seeded, and then-ranked Colorado School of Mines, 82-70, in Golden Colorado. The last time they made it to the semifinals was in 2018 when they defeated MSU Denver, 64-61, in an opening-round game in Alamosa.
 
About the Roadrunners
MSU Denver is 9-7 overall and went 9-6 in RMAC regular season play. The Roadrunners had won five straight games before falling 85-73 in the regular season finale to Black Hills State, which jumped into the No. 3 seed at 10-6.
 
Kobe Sanders, at 13.1 points per game, has carried the MSU Denver offense lately and is shooting 44.4 percent from three-point range (44-of-99) for the season.
 
Laolu Oke is a force for the Roadrunners as he was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth time this season on Monday. Oke averaged 13.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in two games to end the regular season. Oke averages a double-double of 11.1 points and 12.1 rebounds per game while shooting 67.3 percent from the field.

If the Grizzlies shall win, they will travel to the highest remaining seed and play either No. 1 seed and RMAC Regular Season Champion Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction of No. 8 seeded Chadron State on Friday, March 5th.
