COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Adams State University freshman
Mike Bathauer was named Co-Freshman of the Year for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, as announced by conference officials on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the first major Player of the Year award for the Grizzlies since the team was reconvened.
Bathauer, who shares the honor with Regis Matt Marlow, finished the season batting .362 with 50 hits. Of those 50 hits, 28 were extra base hits that included 16 home runs and 46 RBI. Bathauer's 16 home runs were third most in the conference behind First-Team selections Matt Turner (21 home runs) and Haydn McGeary (17) of Colorado Mesa. He sits in eighth in RBI with 46. Bathauer was instrumental in helping the Grizzlies earn their first ever series win over CSU Pueblo this year as he had a three-home run game in the first game if April 2nd's doubleheader.
Defensively, he had a .921 fielding percentage as he had 46 putouts and 105 assists in 164 chances.
In addition to his Co-Freshman of the Year honor, Bathauer was named to the All-RMAC Second Team.
Also receiving recognition was
Alfredo Villa and
Kolton Bleggi as they earned honorable mention.
Villa finished the season with a 4-6 record on the mound with a 8.21 ERA. He started the season off with a 2-0 record. He pitched 49.1 innings where he surrendered 45 earned runs while earning 56 strikeouts.
Bleggi finished the season with a .309 batting average as he finished the season with nine home runs and 28 RBI.
