WHERE WE LEFT OFF
The Grizzlies enter the game 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the RMAC after falling to Western Colorado on Saturday.
Â
The Grizzly defense came out strong as they had four takeaways including a pick six. The Grizzlies should have had a second one on the ensuing drive, however, a penalty was wrongfully enforced eliminating the touchdown. The Grizzlies also failed to connect on field goal attempts to make it a closer game in the middle stanzas.
Â
Offensively, the Grizzlies finished the game with 311 total yards of offense including 177 on the ground and 134 through the air.
Tyreik Campbell was the top rusher as he finished the night with a 5.3 average per carry as he gained 117 yards on 18 attempts for 114 yards. John Buska made his season debut with a 13-of-39 showing through the air.
Â
GETTING NIPPED
Black Hills State enters the game with a 2-1 record and an 0-1 RMAC record as their two wins this season come against Dickison State University (N.D.) (30-24) and William Jewell College (Mo.) (31-21).
Â
Last week, the Yellow Jackets fell to CSU Pueblo in a nail biter 19-16. Black Hills State was down 16-0 entering the fourth quarter but two touchdowns sandwiched a 33-yard field goal that proved to be the game-winner.
Â
Kielar Harpham led the team in receiving, scoring a touchdown on six catches for 88 yards. Matthew Collier scored a touchdown on the ground, rushing for 50 yards on 15 attempts. Nolan Susel added 64 yards on 10 rushing attempts as the Yellow Jackets totaled 153 yards on the ground compared to CSU Pueblo's 118 yards. Chance Eben completed 17 of 26 passing attempts for 204 yards and a touchdown.
Hasaan Williams had four catches for 61 yards, and also hauled in a pair of passes in the end zone on both successful 2-point attempts.
Â
NEW LEADERSHIP
On April 26th, Adams State University removed the interim tag from Head Football Coach
Jarrell Harrison, who officially became the 24th coach in Adams State football history.
Â
Harrison joined Adams State football in 2016 as a Running Backs Coach and Special Teams Assistant under former Head Coach Timm Rosenbach. He was promoted to interim head coach on January 5, 2021, after the resignation of former Head Coach Josh Blankenship. Blankenship finished his two-year tenure with the Grizzlies with an 8-14 (.364) overall record; 8-12 (.400) RMAC.
Â
Harrison makes history for Adams State University as he becomes the first African American to lead the football program, in this, the University's 100th year.
