ALAMOSA, Colo. – After winning its last four matches within the familiar confines of Plachy Hall, visiting and No. 17 Regis proved too tough for host Adams State en route to a 25-19, 25-21, 25-15 sweep over the Grizzlies.
Kyler Adair paced ASU with eight kills as the Grizzlies' offense was held to a .123 hitting percentage.
After the hosts were gifted the match's first point on a Ranger attack error, Regis scored the next four to take an early 4-1 lead.
That's where the lead hovered until ASU scored three straight to catch Regis at 10-10, behind three Ranger errors.
After a fourth error gave ASU an 11-10 lead, Regis went on a 6-2 run to inch ahead at 16-13.
Tied at 17-17, the visitors went on a 4-0 run to take a 21-17 lead before a Ranger error and Adair kill gave ASU hope at 21-19.
Regis, however, would score the next four points to take set one by a 25-19 count.
The visitors again took a 4-1 lead in set two before the hosts caught them at 7-7, courtesy of a Natalie Gallegos kill and two Ranger errors.
An Adair kill three points later gave ASU a 9-8 lead, only to have the Rangers reply with a 9-1 run to take a 17-10 lead.
The Grizzlies managed to narrow their deficit to 21-18 after a Ranger service error, but would get no closer as Regis closed the set on a 4-3 run to take a two-set lead.
Adams State kept set three close early on after a Gallegos kill brought ASU to within 4-3. Regis, however, would go on a 4-1 spurt to take an 8-4 lead, running its lead to 17-10.
An ensuing Ranger error gave ASU a ray of hope, but it wasn't enough as Regis went on an 8-4 run to close the set, earning the sweep on a Grizzlies miscue.
The visitors hit .306 in comparison to ASU, and tallied a 5-0 edge in service aces, usually a strong suit for the Grizzlies.
ASU will resume league play on Friday, November 4, traveling to Fort Lewis College for a 6 pm first serve.
