ALAMOSA, Colo.— For the first time since the 2013-14 season, the Adams State University women's basketball team opened their season with two wins. The Grizzlies defeated the Cameron University Aggies on Saturday night inside Plachy Hall 47-28, during the Lone Star/Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Challenge.
Adams State's 101 points were the most in 11 years, to the date, when they put up 104 points on Oklahoma Panhandle State on Nov. 12, 2011.
The Grizzlies came out on fire as they out and took a 24-10 lead after one quarter. The Grizzlies shot 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) from the field in the quarter including two three-pointers while the Aggies were held to 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from the field.
Adams State continued their pressure as they outscored the Grizzlies 23-18 in the second frame. Adams State shot 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the field while going 3-of-6 (50 percent) and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. The Grizzlies took a 47-28 lead into the break.
The third quarter saw Adams State continued to push the pace as they outscored Cameron 31-21 on the quarter by hit 11-of-20 (55 percent) from the field.
The fourth quarter saw them outscoring them 23-17.
Harmanie Dominquez scored 28 points to lead the Grizzlies as she was 9-of-12 from the field including 6-of-8 from the field.
The Grizzlies were 36-of-67 in the game and 10-of-18 from beyond the arch.
Adams State will return to action on Wednesday with an exhibition game at the Air Force Academy before returning home on Friday for a game with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical at 7:30 p.m.
