WEATHERFORD, Okla.—For the first time since 2014, the Adams State University baseball team opened the season with a win as they defeated the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Bulldogs, 3-1, on Friday afternoon.
Buoyed by a six-inning pitching performance from
Alfredo Villa, Adams State tallied six hits including three doubles on their way to the win. As a team, the Grizzlies surrendered two errors and on Bulldog hit. In his six innings of work, Villa surrendered one run on one hit while allowing one walk and striking out five batters.
Anthony Bleggi pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts and
Cutter Smith finished the game with the save.
Offensively, the Grizzlies scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Ryan Downs.
Chase Dixon rapped up the scoring with a single to center field to score
Ramon Ramirez.
Downs led the offensive attack by going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a stolen base and one run scored.
The Grizzlies return to action with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitches are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
