PLAINVIEW, Texas—The Grizzlies took to the road to Plainview, Texas for a four-game series consisting of two seven inning doubleheaders against Wayland Baptist University. This will be the final series before the Grizzlies open up RMAC competition.
Game 1: Pioneers 1, Grizzlies 0
The Grizzlies were locked in a pitching duel all game.
Alfredo Villa started for the Grizzlies. He took the loss throwing six innings, giving up only two hits, no earned runs and seven strikeouts. Wayland Baptist recorded their only run in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly.
Orlando Romero and
Ryan Downs led the Grizzlies recording two hits each.
Game 2: Pioneers 8, Grizzlies 6
The Grizzlies opened up the game with two runs in the top of the first inning.
Mike Bathauer scored on a pass ball and
Colton Goldfarb singled to score a run. The Pioneers responded with a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Pioneers then scored four unanswered runs all in the bottom of the of the third inning.
The Grizzlies scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning on a couple of errors by the Pioneers to tie the game at five. The Pioneers then hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to retake the lead. Isiah Pruitt then tied the game for the Grizzlies with a single in the top of the fifth inning. The Grizzlies allowed two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Grizzlies started southpaw Matthew Bathauer. He threw two innings giving up five earned runs only recording two strikeouts.
Anthony Bleggi was giving the loss for the game.
