BASE | Pioneers complete sweep of Grizzlies

PLAINVIEW, Texas—The Grizzlies finished up their final two games of the preseason in Plainview, Texas with a doubleheader against Wayland Baptist University.

Game 1: Pioneers 9, Grizzlies 6
The Grizzlies came out and put pressure on the Pioneers by throwing up four runs in the top of the first inning which included a two-run single by Ramon Ramirez. The Grizzlies also added another run in the top of the second inning. The Pioneers responded with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Mike Bathauer hit a solo homerun in top of the third inning but unfortunately that was all the Grizzlies had left. The Pioneers went on and scored seven unanswered runs, three in the fourth and sixth and one in the fifth.

Cutter Smith started the game for the Grizzlies going three and third inning giving up five runs with three strikeouts. Anthony Bleggi was handed the loss for the Grizzlies.

Game 2: Pioneers 5 Grizzlies 3
The Grizzlies gave up two runs in the bottom of the first inning and a run in the bottom of the second inning.  Orlando Romero got the Grizzlies on the board with a single that plated a run in the top of the fourth inning. Matt Bathauer brought the game within a run with a double in the top of the sixth inning. The Pioneers responded with two runs of their own in bottom half of the sixth. Colton Goldfarb started off the top of the seventh inning with a solo homerun to bring the Grizzlies within two runs. After a single, the Grizzlies brought up the tying run but just fell short.

Cesar Loma got the started on the mound for the final game. He threw five innings with three earned runs, four hits, six strikeouts but was given the loss for the Grizzlies.

Up Next:
The Grizzlies will head to Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado to open up RMAC play. They will play a nine-inning game on Friday starting at 3pm.
