GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Grizzlies opened conference play this weekend against the No. 2-ranked Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado. They started with a nine-inning game on Friday and the Grizzlies fell 12-3.
Game 1: Mavericks 12, Grizzlies 3
The Grizzlies scored first with a solo homerun by
Orlando Romero in the top of the second inning. The Mavericks then answered with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Grizzlies respond with another run in the top of the third inning. The Mavericks then answered nine unanswered runs, one in the third, three in the fourth, and five in the sixth.
Matt Bathauer hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning.
The Grizzlies started right-handed
Alfredo Villa. He was handed the loss for the Grizzlies going four innings giving up six earned runs and striking out four.
