GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Grizzlies continued their series against No. 2 Colorado Mesa University with two seven inning games today.
Game 1: Mavericks 6, Grizzlies 3
The Mavericks took the lead early in the game with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning.
Mike Bathauer got the Grizzlies on the board with a single that scored a run in the top of the third inning. The Mavericks then had back-to-back solo homeruns in the bottom of the third inning. The Grizzlies then scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth with doubles by
Chase Dixon and Cedric Reynaud. The Mavericks then had another solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning and then added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Cesar Loma started for the Grizzlies going five innings, giving up five runs and striking out three. He was handed the loss.
Game 2: Mavericks 3, Grizzlies 2
The Grizzlies jumped on the board first in the top of the first inning with a run scored double by
Orlando Romero. The Mavericks responded in the bottom half of the inning with a solo homerun to tie the game. The Mavericks took the lead in the bottom of the second inning scoring a run on a double.
Mike Bathauer tied the game in the top of the third inning with a solo homerun. The Mavericks walked off the Grizzlies on a sacrifice fly.
The Grizzlies started
Cutter Smith. He was handed the loss for the Grizzlies throwing a complete game, striking out three on 99 pitches.
