WBB| Grizzlies look to stay in the hunt on the road

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies are on the road this weekend against Black Hills State and Chadron State. The Grizzlies are currently going into the games sitting in seventh place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) with an overall record of 9-10 overall and 7-7 in conference. This is the highest the Grizzlies have been in the conference in five years.

 Up first for the Grizzlies is Black Hills State who is sitting fourth in the conference with an overall record of 12-7 and a conference record of 10-3. The Yellow Jackets are on a five-game winning streak as they are fresh off a victory with Metropolitan State University of Denver and Colorado Christian University.

Leading the Yellow Jackets is Danica Kocer who averages 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 25.7 minutes, and is 35.8 percent from the three-point line. Assisting her is Megan Engesser who is averaging 8.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 24.7 minutes, and is also 35.8 percent from the three-point line.

In the last matchup between the Grizzlies and the Yellow Jackets, the Grizzlies pulled an upset by defeating Black Hills 68-60. This win was the first time the Grizzlies ever defeated to the Yellow Jackets.

After playing in Spearfish, South Dakota, the Grizzlies will head to Chadron, Nebraska to play the Chadron State Eagles. The Eagles are 6-12 overall and 5-8 in conference going into this weekend. They are coming off of a loss to Metropolitan State University Denver and Westminster. In the previous matchup with the Grizzlies, the Eagles lost 73-58. Leading the Eagles this season is Ashayla Powers 13.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 24.3 minutes per game. Samiyah Worrell is averaging 11.9 points, 24.8 minutes, 4.4 rebounds, and is 35.3 percent from the three-point line.

Up next, the Grizzlies will return back home for two weeks. They will be hosting Colorado Mesa University and Westminster College in February 11th and 12th at 5:30 p.m. Then, on the 18th and 19th the Grizzlies host Fort Lewis College and Western Colorado University. The Saturday game against Western Colorado will be the Grizzlies senior night.
