ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderWolves spoiled the long-awaited home opener for the Adams State University Grizzlies on Friday afternoon as they capitalized on errors for an 9-8 nine-inning win.
The ThunderWolves scored the first two runs in the game in the top of the first before Adams State saw Matt and
Mike Bathauer earn RBI by scoring
Cedrick Reynaud and
Ryan Downs and tie the game at two.
The ThunderWolves scored one run in the second, four runs in the third and one in the fourth to take an 8-2 lead.
After a 1-2-3 top of the fifth inning, the Grizzlies rallied and scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Reynaud tripled to center field to score
Chase Dixon from first base after he reached on a bunt that resulted in an error after the first baseman was pulled off the bag.
Ryan Downs then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Reynaud to make the score the 8-4 after five.
The Grizzlies allowed a solo run in the top of the sixth inning before
Chase Dixon doubled down the left field line and Reynaud hit his first home run of the season to pull the Grizzlies back within two at 9-7.
The Grizzlies loaded the bases in the seventh inning and got two runners on base in the eighth inning but stranded all five runners.
Orlando Romero pulled the Grizzlies closer in the ninth inning as he hit a no-doubt home run in the bottom of the ninth before getting the tying run to third.
The Grizzlies and ThunderWolves will continue the four-game series with two seven-inning games set to start at noon on Saturday.
