ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Adams State Grizzlies saw their bats warm up in Saturday's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) doubleheader against the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves as they were able to win the first game 8-3 before securing a sweep with a 12-11 walk-off win. The sweep was the first since April 2, 2021 when the Grizzlies swept the ThunderWolves in Pueblo.
GAME 1: Adams State 8, CSU Pueblo 3
Both teams scored in each of the first three innings including the ThunderWolves who scored single runs in the first, second and third.
Adams State countered with a three spot in the bottom of the first including an RBI single from
Orlando Romero and a two-run single by
Colton Goldfarb. They added four runs in the bottom of the second inning as
Matt Bathauer singled to center field for two runs, Goldfarb hit a sacrifice fly and
Brody Bettis singled to left field.
The third inning saw
Cedrick Reynaud hot his first home run of the season on a 2-0 pitch to right field to cap off the scoring.
Alfredo Villa earned his third win of the season with the complete game showing where he allowed ten hits while he got five strikeouts.
GAME 2: Adams State 12, CSU Pueblo 11
In the second game, the ThunderWolves scored two runs in the tip of the first before the Grizzlies tied the game with a
Matt Bathauer double down the left field line before
Orlando Romero had a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.
After a scoreless second inning, CSU Pueblo scored two runs in the top of the third inning.
Matt Bathauer cut the lead in half with a home run to center field to make the score 4-3 after three.
CSU Pueblo tried to pull away in the fourth inning with a two-run double to make the score 6-3. The Grizzlies rallied back with five runs in the bottom of the inning including a two-run home run for
Orlando Romero. The ThunderWolves scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning thanks to an error.
Adams State took a 10-8 lead with two doubles. CSU Pueblo scored three runs in the seventh inning to take a 11-10 lead.
The Grizzlies did not go down easy as
Nathan Hield had a pinch hit double to center field to score pinch runner
Jace Wytulka. The Grizzlies than loaded the bases and a mental error by the ThunderWolf pitcher allowed the Grizzlies to get the walk off win on a balk.
On the day, the Grizzlies hit .491 with 27 hits and three home runs.

The Grizzlies will close out the four-game series with the ThunderWolves on Sunday when the two teams meet at the ASU Baseball Field for a nine-inning affair scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
