ALAMOSA, Colo. — It was a sunny, but windy day as the Adams State Grizzlies hosted the Colorado Mesa Mavericks for the 2022 home and season opener at the ASU Lacrosse Field. Despite scoring the first goal of the game, the Grizzlies fell 21-4.
There's a long rivalry between the Grizzlies and the Mavericks. No matter what the sport, there always seems to be a little more going on than just the game. This was very evident from the start of the game. Both teams came out aggressive and intense. The Grizzlies were first to score but the Mavericks would quickly counter it. The score at the end of the first period was 4-2, with the Mavericks ahead.
The second period was just as intense but the Mavericks slowly started running away with the game. The score going into halftime was 9-3, Mesa.
Even though the Grizzlies were down by six, one would not be able to tell by watching the game. Both teams continued to go at it until the final buzzer. The score didn't reflect the toughness, intensity, and competitiveness of the game, as the final score was 21-4.
Up next for the Grizzlies is a road game against Lindenwood in Kansas City, Missouri on March 21st. The Grizzlies will remain on the road for the rest of March. The next home game for the Grizzlies is April 22nd against Westminster College.
