COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the first time since the Adams State University baseball program was resurrected for the 2013 season, the Grizzlies have First Team All-RMAC members as senior pitcher
Alfredo Villa and sophomore
Matt Bathauer earned the recognition, announced conference officials on Wednesday.
In addition, Villa became the fourth Grizzly in those nine seasons to be a Gold Glove defender as he was named the Gold Glove pitcher. Villa is the first Grizzly pitcher to ever earn the honor and the first since Nico Nintze and Logan Bistrup earned the honor in 2019. Marco Garmendia also earned Gold Glove status in 2017.
Villa has a stellar senior season as he made and started 11 games this season where he tossed 72 2/3 innings and finished with a 3.72 ERA. His strong showing on the mound netted him a Grizzly record six complete games with 72 strikeouts. Villa ranks in the top five in the RMAC in ERA (third), opposing batting average (.237; second), strikeouts (fourth), wins (tied for second), while leading the conference in innings pitched.
Bathauer, who played and started 42 games for the Grizzlies, finished with the second-best batting average on the season at .361 with seven home runs and 40 RBI. Of his 52 hits, 14 were extra-base hits.
Mike Bathauer, who was the 2021 Co-RMAC Freshman of the Year, was tabbed as honorable mention. He finished the season with a .351 batting average with 38 RBI.
Since 2013, 14 players received All-RMAC honors and four were Golden Glove recipients.
