LUBBOCK, Texas – The Adams State University harriers are toeing the starting line in Lubbock, Texas, for the 2023 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Cross Country Championships, which will be hosted by Lubbock Christian University on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course. Saturday's action begins with the women's 6,000-meter at 9:00 a.m. (MT)/10:00 a.m. (CT) and concludes with the men's 10,000-metre at 10:00 a.m. (MT)/11:00 a.m. (CT).
The No. 1 regionally—and No. 2 nationally—ranked Grizzly women look to retain their regional title on Saturday as they won last season's title. The Grizzlies look to return to the NCAA Division II Championship Meet in Joplin, Mo. so they can defend their title, a title they have won the last three times it was up for grabs.
Adams State will be represented by Brianna Robles, who claimed the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) individual title and the league's Women's Runner of the Year honor at the 2023 RMAC Women's Cross Country Championship after guided the Grizzlies to their third consecutive RMAC Women's Cross Country title.
In addition, the RMAC Freshman of the Year Tristan Spence is also scheduled to compete.
The women's race is littered with nationally-ranked programs from the RMAC with seven programs in total. Colorado School of Mines enters the weekend at No. 3 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll, followed by No. 4 Western Colorado, No. 8 Colorado State University Pueblo, No. 10 UCCS, No. 17 Colorado Christian and No. 24 Fort Lewis.
On the men's side, the No. 2 regionally—No. 4 nationally—Grizzly men look to return to the national meet after failing to qualify last season.
Within the men's race, the RMAC is heavily represented among the national polls with Colorado School of Mines in the top spot, followed by Adams State at No. 4, Western Colorado at No. 6, Colorado Christian at No. 7, Fort Lewis tied for No. 23 and UCCS at No. 27.
