BOSTON, Mass. – Adams State University junior
Romain Legendre made NCAA Division II history on Saturday at the Sharon Colyear-Danvile Season Opener hosted by Boston University. He broke the indoor 5,000-meter record with a time of 13:24.09.
Legendre breaks the previous record that was held by Colorado School of Mines' Dillon Powell who ran 13:28 on the same track, inside the BU Track & Tennis Center, back in February of this year. He finished in 13th place in the seeded race. Harvard junior Graham Blanks won the event with a time of 13:03.78.
Also running in the seeded race was senior
Dayton Brown (13:59.62), who finished in 96th place and junior
Yonas Haile (14:05.94), who finished in 113th place, and junior
James Dunne (14:24.68) finished in 164th place in the 208-runner field.
Senior
Jonah Vigil finished second in the 400-meter run as he ran a 48.00 just behind Michigan junior Noah Sage's winning time of 47.65.
Junior
Elijah De La Cerda finished in 32nd in the unseeded 5,000-meter run as he posted a time of 14:38.02.
On the women's side, freshman
Victoria Amiadamen finished in second on the 400-meter dash as she was the top collegiate runner to cross the finish line in 55.94.
Junior
Ava O'Connor was the top Grizzly in the 3,000-meter run as she finished in 20th place with a time of 9:10.48.
Senior
Brianna Robles finished in 37th place in the 5,000-meter as she crossed the finish line in 15:55.16. Freshman Tristian Spence finished in 54th place while junior
Morgan Hykes finished in 66 th place. The two posted times of 16:08.85 and 16:17.93, respectively. Junior
Emily Schoellkopf finished in 81st place with a time of 16:27.99.
In addition to those three, four other Grizzlies ran in the 166-runner field including junior Amalia Dorian (16:55.05), sophomore
Fiona Hawkins (16:58.07), junior
Reina Paredes (17:11.66) and senior Emily Stonebarger (17:45.49).
Adams State will see action continue next weekend when they travel to Gunnison to participate in the Mountaineer Open.
