ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Grizzlies had an impressive start to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship (RMAC) as many faculties record were broken and there were some top finishes in multiple events.
Jordan Spencer go the Grizzlies off to a good start as he competed well in the men's 60m Hurdles prelims. Spencer qualified to the finals of this event with a time of 8.11 and will be competing in the finals tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
Jonah Vigil gave his best efforts to advance to the finals of the men's 60- meters. Vigil qualified to the finals with a time of 6.77 and will compete in the finals of this event tomorrow at 12:20 p.m.
Michael Fonseca gave a solid effort in the men's 400 meters as he finished 15
th overall as he posted a time of 51.07.
In the men's 5000 meters
Yonas Haile took the lead mid race and opening up a gap earning him first place finish with a time of 15:03.32.
Dayton Brown also competed in this event as he stayed engaged throughout the race earning a third-place finish with a time of 15:18.06.
The men's Distance Medley Relay (DMR) set the pace from the gun to set a new facility record as they ran a time of 10:00.93 and it is also the Division II national leading mark. The team consisted of
Cameron Allan,
Chad Jackson,
David Cardenas, and
Miguel Coca.
In the men's long jump
Camwrin Harris finished 10th with a jump of 7.06 meters and Papacy Glaywulu 18th with a jump of 5.76 meters.
On the women's side
Alese Sartain qualified for the finals of the women's 60 meters as she clocked at 7.73. Sartain will compete in the finals tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
Three Grizzlies competed in the women's 5000 meters,
Emily Schoellkopf was the first Grizzly to cross the line earning a third place finish with a time of 17:46.19.
Reina Paredes also competed in this event and finished 8
th with a time of 18:24.10, followed by
Amalia Dorion who finished 10
th with a time of 18:38.36.
Ending the night with momentum to continue to build off tomorrow was the women's Distance Medley Relay (DMR), which consisted of
Stephanie Cotter,
Jessica Simon,
Nicole Lawrence, and
Brianna Robles. These Grizzlies ended the night on a high note as they broke the facility record with a time of 11:42.95 and also set a new standard for the RMAC record in this event.
Up Next the Grizzlies will be back on the track tomorrow to compete in day two of the RMAC Championships, with events scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
