Alamosa, Colo.— The Grizzlies ended the 2023 RMAC Indoor Championship with men's team ending the day with a second place finish with 105 points and the women's team finished fifth with 62 points.
Camwrin Harris had a stellar performance in the men's triple jump as his efforts has placed him in the top ten in the Division II National rankings. Harris efforts also earned him a podium finish as he placed second as he jumped 15.29 meters.
Papay Glaywulu also competed in this event and finished in sixth as he jumped 14.36 meters.
Sam Dirkes had a top finish in the men's shot put as he finished in third as he threw 17.27 meters, followed by
James Hochanadel in fifth who threw 16.10 meters, and James Waddles in 14
th as he threw 14.60 meters.
Jordan Spencer set a new personal best in the men's 60 meter hurdles and with his best efforts made the podium with a third place finish with a time of 8.04.
Jonah Vigil earned a podium finish as he finished second in the men's 60 meter dash.
Miguel Coca continues to represent the Grizzlies well as he ran a strong race from the gun to earn a podium finish in the men's mile as he ran a time of 4:10.42.
Clement Duigou worked his way up to the front pack and had a strong finish that led him to a second place finish with a time of 4:17.06.
Davonte Jett-Reynolds had an impressive finish as he finished in fourth place with a time of 4:18.69.
Mitchell Dervin and
Nathan Scherbarth also competed in this event and finished in 10
th and 11
th place. Dervin ran a time of 4:25.63 and Scherbarth ran a time of 4:26.46.
Michael Sherman was the lone Grizzly in the men's 800 meters and finished in ninth place with a time of 1:58.60.
Cameron Allan was the first grizzly to cross the line in the men's 3000 meters and finished in fourth plac as he clocked at 8:34.25.
Awet Beraki finished in sixth place with a time o 8:36.07, followed by
Elijah De La Cerdain seventh (8:44.65), Mikah Piaz in eighth (8:45.95),
Yonas Haile in 10
th place (8:54.89), and
Dayton Brown in 12
th place (8:58.08).
The men's 4x 400 meter relay finished in fifth place overall as they ran a time of 3:22.25. The team consisted of Michale Fonseca,
Davonte Jett-Reynolds,
Chad Jackson, and
David Cardenas.
On the women's side
Alese Sartain finished in seventh place in the women's 60 meter dash as she ran a time of 7.79.
Maggie McCleskey ran a smart and strategic race as she worked her way to take the lead in the women's mile. McCleskey had a strong kick to the finish as she earned the title of being the RMAC Champion as she finished with a time of 5:02.69.
Morgan Hykes had an impressive race as well as she fought until the end to earn a third place podium finish with a time of 5:04.18.
Amalia Dorion showed great efforts as she ran a new personal best finishing in sixth place with a time of 5:09.40.
Rachel O'Brien had a strong finish in the women's 800 meters as she finished in third with a time of 2:12.55,
Lieke Hoogsteen also competed in this event and finished in sixth place with a time of 2:13.39, and
Jessica Simon who finished in eighth with a time of 2:14.59.
Precious Robison staged enraged throughout the race and had a strong finish earning her a podium finish as she finished in third place with a time of 10:07.65.
The women's 4x400 meter relay earned a second place finished as they ran a time of 3:58.08. The team consisted of
Jessica Simon,
Rachel O'Brien,
Lieke Hoogsteen, and Nicole Lawerence.
The Grizzlies will now focus on preparing for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship at Virginia Beach, Va. on March 10
th-March 11
th at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
